AGA's 2012 Graduate-Level Government Finance Case Challenge Finalists Named

Local Governments in North Carolina Better Off Because of Unique State Agency

The four states with the nation’s highest unemployment rate are Nevada, Rhode Island, California and North Carolina. All except North Carolina are replete with financially stressed local governments, some near insolvency. North Carolina’s success at dodging similar crises is due in large part to a little-known state agency called the Local Government Commission –Stephen C. Fehr, Stateline. Read More

CBO Releases 2012 Long-term Fiscal Outlook

Over the past few years, the federal government has been recording budget deficits that are the largest as a share of the economy since 1945. Consequently, the amount of federal debt held by the public has surged. By the end of this year, CBO projects that the federal debt will reach roughly 70 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), the highest percentage since shortly after World War II. Read More


FASAB Issues Standards for Reporting Funds from Dedicated Collections

“SFFAS 43 will result in improved reporting on dedicated collections by using more understandable terminology and by excluding funds that were not intended to be included in this category. SFFAS 43 will also reduce the reporting burden on financial statement preparers by permitting combined rather than consolidated reporting on this category of funds,” according to Chairman Tom Allen.
