AGAGovernment Finance Case Challenge 2008-2009

Rules

  • Teams must have 3 - 4 members. Members must be students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the school they represent.
  • Only one team from each school may apply.
  • Teams must be registered by 5:00 pm. EST on October 2, 2009 to participate.
  • Teams must submit a solution to the case by 5:00 p.m. EST, October 20, 2009.
  • Student teams should familiarize themselves with the Citizen-Centric Reporting model available on the AGA website at www.agacgfm.org/citizen/default.aspx. Each submission should conform to the criteria in the design guidelines template and the content guidelines. Submissions will be judged on the extent to which the report is consistent with the guidelines. However, each team should exercise its own judgment about the content of the report within the general guidelines. There is no ‘formula’ for a winning presentation.

  • In addition to the report, each student team should submit a short Word document (2-4 page) that summarizes the criteria the team used to decide what to include (and what not to include) in the performance report and why. The purpose of this document is simply to help the evaluation committee understand the team’s deliberative process so that they can review the report in the context of that process.

  • Names of all team members and their school should be included in the document header.
  • Teams may use primary and secondary resources available to them. Please site any sources using MLA format. All primary research must be conducted by team members.
  • Any late entries will result in a penalty of one point for each day that the entry is late.
  • The two highest-scoring teams will be selected and announced on Monday, November 23, 2009 and will receive a scholarship to attend the AGA National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Washington, D.C. in February, 2010.
  • All members from each of the top two teams must be present at the NLC events in February. The brief presentation can be no more than 20 minutes, and there will be 10 minutes allotted for questions from the judges, consisting of a panel of government financial management leaders and corporate sponsors. This presentation will determine the final winner and will provide students with an additional opportunity to demonstrate their case findings and presentation skills. A/V equipment will be made available, and teams may use any creative format for their presentation.
  • Cash prizes will be awarded during the awards luncheon on the final day of the conference. In addition, each student will receive a stipend to cover travel and hotel expenses.
  • Teams may have a faculty advisor if they choose. Teaching notes will be emailed to all professors that make a request on Oct. 5, 2009.
