Looking for a Comprehensive Training Program for your Organization? AGA Can Help!
AGA is committed to assisting government financial management professionals with quality training. We provide training courses in the areas of:

  • federal financial management
  • fiscal anatomy of a state or local government program
  • ethical decision-making
  • fraud detection and prevention
  • transitional leadership
  • single audits (coming soon)
  • internal controls (coming soon)

Take a look at our 5 Cs to training:

Content
AGA-sponsored courses are developed and taught by experts in their fields of study. Each class is evaluated and recommended updates are made to provide the most current and relevant content available.

Cost
Most of our courses are one-day courses and are priced at $3,750 for up to 20 participants. The tuition includes class materials and instructor compensation, travel and lodging. This equates to 8 CPE hours for about $185 per participant. Please note 20 is our recommended class size to maximize instructor interactions. We are able to increase this number based on your organization’s needs.

Convenience
We bring the training to you! This means no employee travel and you select the time and location of training.

Customization
If your organization has a specific need or is interested in other training areas, AGA can modify an existing program or design a course best suited to your staff needs.

Collaboration
We understand you may not have a training room or enough employees to conduct your own training session. AGA can also coordinate mixed sessions with other organizations.

To learn more about these courses or discuss your training needs, please contact Joe Jozefczyk, AGA Director of Education, at 800.AGA.7211, ext.307.

CPAG Research Update: 7 New Studies Completed
Late spring was very busy for the Corporate Partner Advisory Group (CPAG) Research Program. Seven CPAG Research Reports were issued and nine research projects were presented at the 2007 PDC in Nashville, highlighting just how the program has grown (to a total of 13 reports).

The State Purchase Card: Uses, Policies and Best Practices, sponsored by VISA

Federal Real Property Asset Management, sponsored by American Appraisal Associates

Should State and Local Governments Strengthen Internal Controls by Applying SOX-Like Requirements? A Study of State and Local Government Internal Controls and Related Management Responsibilities, sponsored by KPMG LLP

Process-Based Financial Reporting, sponsored by Grant Thornton LLP

The State Travel Card: Uses, Policies and Best Practices, sponsored by VISA

Trends in Technology—2007 Review, sponsored by CSC

The Federal Travel Card: Benefits and Best Practices, sponsored by VISA

Two other studies are nearly complete—Usefulness of SAS 70 Audit Reports (sponsored by Ernst & Young) and What Kind of Education & Skills Set are Needed for the 21st Century Federal Financial Manager (sponsored by Management Concepts).

Two additional studies have begun. One is a project to develop a GASB-compliant taxonomy for a couple of financial statements, with the state of Oregon doing the pilot (sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers). The second study is evaluating how the use of XBRL tags in state reports to federal agencies on various grants could facilitate and improve the grants management and reporting process (sponsored by BearingPoint).

Two more studies are planned to start shortly. The first is a follow-on project to the state and local governmental project on evaluating whether states and local governments should be concerned about having to comply with SOX-like legislation (sponsored by KPMG LLP). This time the topic will be the role of audit committees, and how to create an effective audit committee. It will focus on all three levels of government.

The second is a follow-on project to the Process-Based Reporting project (a cooperative project led by sponsor Grant Thornton LLP with other CPAG members participating) to be called Process-Based Reports. It will involve agencies actually creating pilot reports that will marry cost and performance information to provide more forward-looking information. We hope it will demonstrate that a better financial reporting model is feasible.

If you would like to sponsor a research project and/or have a good idea for a project, we would like to hear from you. Please contact Anna Miller, AGA’s Director of Research.
