AGA, in
conjunction with the National Association of State Auditors,
Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and the Association of
Local Government Auditors (ALGA), is pleased to announce a new
and increasingly important topic to our audio conference
schedule—fraud risk planning.
All
professional standards require auditors to consider exposures
from misconduct, wrongdoing and fraud. Requirements may include
brainstorming sessions during audit planning, discovery based
testing and analyzing red flags surfaced to determine the true
cause. But too often, practical limitations of time and other
resources get in the way of full on the job implementation.
This session
will show government audit and accounting professionals how to
balance their fraud deterrence and detection responsibilities.
Topics covered will include:
·
Identifying fraud risks in program operations and accounting
·
How to brainstorm fraud risks in an audit setting
·
The Fraud Loss Scorecard—starting point of prevention and
detection efforts
·
Why controls will not prevent fraud
·
Putting real action behind the concept of Professional
Skepticism
·
Early Fraud Detection: how to build detection into every day
activities
·
How to sell improvement ideas to managers and their staff
To share his
expertise in fraud auditing is John J. Hall, CPA, a
consultant, speaker and seminar instructor. He helps clients:
create a comprehensive anti-fraud environment; identify and
assess areas of exposure to wrongdoing, misconduct and fraud;
strengthen fraud prevention and detection controls; and enhance
personal and professional effectiveness. John also helps clients
handle incidents of wrongdoing, misconduct and fraud. These
services include incident investigation, preparation and review
of fidelity bond insurance claims, coordination with law
enforcement and prosecutors, and identification and correction
of control failures related to the incident.
Please join us
for two hours of lively discussion about this important and
timely topic. In addition to the speaker’s commentary, there
will be approximately 20 minutes for Q & A so participants can
ask the speaker questions and share their own experiences.
