Making Informed Decisions Using Performance Management and Reporting
An AGA TRAINING AUDIO CONFERENCE
August 8, 2007
2 CPE Hours Available!

AGA, in conjunction with the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA), is pleased to announce a new and increasingly important topic to our audio conference schedule – Performance Management and Reporting.

Performance management and reporting can and is defined in many different ways, but at its core, performance reporting allows government officials to improve service delivery and resource allocation by disclosing strengths and weaknesses to citizens and management and making changes based on those disclosures.  The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) defines performance reporting as a form of measurement of an organization’s performance results and the public reporting of key indicators that communicate decision-useful information regarding an organization’s actual results achieved in pursuit of its goals.  The bottom line: preparing useful performance reports can inform stakeholders of the successes and challenges within government and can assist government officials in making informed decisions.

Are you a government official who wants to learn more about performance management and reporting?  Are taxpayers in your community unaware of the good that government performs?  With transparency and accountability as the watchwords for effective, efficient and honest government, performance management and reporting should be on the political agenda of any official to inform constituents how and on what government is spending tax dollars. Taxpayers should demand nothing less.

To share their practical experiences in performance management and reporting and to learn the latest in the GASB Service Efforts and Accomplishments Project are three experts: Jay Fountain, GASB Consultant; Michael Lawson, Director of the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement; and Michael Matthes, Assistant City Manager, Des Moines, Iowa.

Please join us for two hours of lively discussion about this important and timely topic.  In addition to the speakers’ commentary, there will be approximately 20 minutes for Q & A so that the participants can ask the speakers questions and share their own experiences.
