Recruiting Tips
Tip #1:
Invite a colleague to your next chapter meeting. Next month, invite a
different colleague to that month’s chapter meeting. Check with your chapter
– many run promotions whereas if you bring a nonmember to the meeting, they
can attend for free.
Tip #2:
Keep the AGA website bookmarked on your computer so that you can refer
potential members to it in e-mails –
www.agacgfm.org.
Tip #3:
Have a stack of membership applications at your desk for easy access.
Order them by calling 1.800.242.7211 and/or
agamembers@agacgfm.org.
Tip #4:
Keep issues of the Journal on display to catch the eye of nonmember colleagues.
Tip #5:
When discussing membership with someone, listen for clues as to what they
look for in a professional society. Stress those member benefits that meet
their needs!
Tip #6:
Follow-up is key. Don't just give a recruit an application and hope it's
filled out and sent in. Politely follow up with your recruits to see if they
have mailed the application. Inquire if they have additional questions.
Tip #7:
Personalize the recruiting process. It may help to let your recruit(s) know
what you find most valuable about your AGA membership. It may be something
that they never even thought of needing and now you're letting them know
that they can get it through AGA.
Tip #8:
If your recruit's hesitation is financial, suggest that they talk to their
employer about subsidizing their dues. Also, point out to the recruit the
many ways being an AGA member can save them and their employer money.
Members save money registration fees for conferences, workshops and courses
as well as AGA periodicals and training materials.
