Q:
If I am a speaker, do I still need to register for the conference?
A:
Yes. All speakers are required to register for the conference. This ensures
that we have a name badge for you upon arrival and that we have all the
correct contact information for you. Speakers that do not choose to
participate in the conference beyond their presentation will not be required
to pay a registration fee. However, speakers that wish to register and earn
CPE are invited to register attend the conference at the AGA member rate.
Speakers
will receive a special Speaker Registration Form from AGA’s meetings
department before the conference.
Q: If I
am a speaker can I earn CPE credit?
A:
Instructors, discussion leaders, or speakers who present a learning activity
for the first time should receive CPE credit for actual preparation time up
to two times the number of CPE credits to which participants would be
entitled, in addition to the time for presentation. For example, for
learning activities in which participants could receive 8 CPE credits,
instructors may receive up to 24 CPE credits (16 for preparation plus 8 for
presentation). For repeat presentations, CPE credit can be claimed only if
it can be demonstrated that the learning activity content was substantially
changed and such change required significant additional study or research.
Q: I am
interested in speaking at this conference. What should I do? How are
speakers selected?
A:
Each AGA conference agenda is developed by a group of AGA member volunteers,
known as the Technical Committee. The Technical Committee is responsible for
determining the conference theme and selecting speakers and topics for the
conference. There is no Call for Presentations, and members of the
Technical Committee usually already have specific speakers in mind.
However,
if you wish to be considered as a speaker, please submit a proposal
describing your presentation and it will be passed along to the Technical
Committee. Please note that sessions are identified and selected
approximately 10 months prior to conference. Historically, proposals have
only been accepted for AGA’s Professional Development Conference &
Exposition, not the NLC.
To help
you prepare your proposal, please note that all sessions must meet strict
requirements in order to be placed on the agenda. Some of these criteria
are:
-
The
presentations must fit into the conference theme.
-
The
presentations must be educational in nature in order to comply with
NASBA's standards for earning Continuing Professional Education.
-
Presentations must not be used for selling products or services. If a
session is proposed by a corporate entity, the presentation must be given
(or co-presented) by a government client. Sessions are limited to three
presenters.
If you
have a presentation that you believe fits this criteria, please send a
summary of the session (identifying potential speakers) to Ada Phillips at
aphillips@agacgfm.org.
Thank you.
