Governments at all levels have been facing increasing pressure to make information on financial condition and performance results from the programs they are managing more easily available. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has only made such pressures stronger as governments have started putting out quarterly reports on details of expenses. Given that the “genie is out of the bottle,” citizen expectations of access to such information is likely to only increase after ARRA programs are completed. This presentation reviews the state of the art among governments reporting on both financial condition and performance management. We also provide an update on efforts AGA is undertaking to develop models for improved reporting, including Service Efforts and Accomplishments and improved financial reporting.
