The U.S.
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) received an audit finding
around the inability to identify and accumulate information
needed to prepare the SONC. A team of subject-matter experts
reviewed the legacy approach to producing the statement and
determined the root cause of this finding is related to how the
agency defined its lines of business. The team proposed
remediation efforts, which included redefining the agency lines
of business to be in alignment with VA’s major line organization
and consistent funding provided VA appropriation law. The
proposed solution allows for an efficient streamlined,
systematic approach to preparing the SONC and mitigates the
increase risk of error noted in the audit finding.
