REVIEWING AND IMPROVING PERFORMANCE REPORTS

Learn how to be an SEA reviewer by
participating in this audio conference on designed to give an
overview of the review process. Hal Steinberg, AGA technical
consultant, will walk through the 16 suggested GASB criteria
that are used to review an SEA report. Mr. Steinberg shares
with you his insights and tips in making a report easier to
review. If your entity is thinking about doing a performance
report, be a reviewer! It's the best time to pick up some of
the best practices from other governments.
Thanks to the Sloan Foundation, AGA was awarded a grant to
undertake a program for reviewing state and local governments'
performance reports, provide the governments with
recommendations for improving the reports, and identify the best
reports for special recognition. Guidelines for preparing a
performance report have been by created by AGA and are based on
the Governmental Accounting Standards Board's (GASB) suggested
criteria for performance reports,
The workshop will cover:
- AGA's program to review
performance reports and how it will be conducted
- GASB's suggested
criteria for performance reports, their rationale and
purpose
- AGA's review guidelines
and how they can be used to review a performance report and
determine opportunities for improvements
- The reviewers' role in
the program
- Planned steps for
evaluating and improving the review process and guidelines

for Effective Information" provides excellent background
