Research Program Update
AGA’s CPAG Research Program creates research projects of value to
governments, industry and the AGA membership. Two major types of
research are conducted under the program: sponsored and cooperative,
with cooperative tending to have a shorter (90-day) timeframe, and
sponsored being of a longer, continuing nature.

AGA and CPAG—What a
Difference Another Year Makes!
Thank you for your outstanding support of AGA and
its mission of advancing government accountability. Over the past year,
AGA has made tremendous strides as the thought leader for government
financial management due in large part to its Corporate Partners. I look
forward to continuing our partnership into the future.
I was thrilled by the overwhelming success of our
recent National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. We
anticipated a crowd of 500, and broke attendance records with close
to 700 participants. The record-setting attendance was a testament
to the outstanding technical program, which brought together our
Corporate Partners with federal, state and local government leaders.
The Professional Development Conference & Exposition
(PDC) is scheduled for June 18-21 in San Diego, and all indicators
point to another record-breaker. If you haven’t made plans to
participate, I urge you to do so now.
AGA’s technical contributions to the profession have
come a long way in just a few short years. We have published three
research reports and eight other projects are under way. Our
Corporate Partners play a critical role in these research efforts.
And we know our partners appreciate being part of an organization
that responds to all relevant standards, rules, regulations and
pronouncements promulgated by various standard-setting bodies and
other organizations.
This year we’ll continue to provide you with
exclusive opportunities—including our ongoing dinner and breakfast
events—to network with government leaders. I encourage you to also
take advantage of the corporate partner discounts for advertising,
exhibiting and registrations at AGA events.
I’ve never been more excited about where AGA is
headed, but we cannot do this important work alone. Our valued
Corporate Partners provide the support AGA needs to advance
government accountability at all levels. We deeply appreciate your
support, and look forward to serving you in the coming years.
Sincerely,

Relmond Van Daniker, DBA, CPA
Executive Director

Black Tie Event Celebrates
Excellence
This year's Certificate of Excellence in Accountability Reporting
(CEAR) Program Awards Banquet is set for
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the National Press Club in Washington,
D.C. Each Corporate Partner organization has been extended two
invitations to participate in this exciting event. Invitations were
sent to the main contact for each Corporate Partner organization.
AGA presents the CEAR to federal agencies that meet
the highest standards in producing their Performance and
Accountability Reports (PARs), which must clearly communicate
results and demonstrate accountability. Award-winning PARs
effectively illustrate and assess program performance—both
accomplishments and shortfalls—and the cost of that performance.
The CEAR Program helps raise the quality and
usefulness of performance information through promulgation of report
guidelines, training workshops for report preparers and program
reviewers, an in-depth peer review of each PAR, opportunities to
serve as reviewers, and an annual comprehensive compilation of
commendable practices, examples of creativity and practices in need
of improvement.
Each Corporate Partner organization has been extended
two invitations to participate in this exciting event. Invitations
were sent to the main contact for each Corporate Partner
organization.

CGFM Helps PwC's Federal Practice
Better Serve its Government Clients
“Stale, old and dated,” was how Carter Pate described his
knowledge of federal financial management when he was asked to
reinvigorate the U.S. federal practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers
LLP, but that was before he teamed up with AGA to earn his CGFM.
Pate, a managing partner in Dallas, moved to Washington, D.C. in
July 2004 after more than 20 years on the commercial side. Although
he is a nationally known business restructuring expert, author,
former CEO and chairman of several public companies and founding
partner of his own national consulting firm, Pate still worried he
was rusty on the specifics of governmental accounting. Pate asked
around, looking for the best course of study to improve his skills.
A number of government finance professionals suggested earning the
CGFM credential. “It was exactly what I was looking for,” Pate said.
