It's Time to Pay Tribute to AGA's Best and Brightest
National Awards Nominations and Scholarship Applications Due

It’s that time of year again—time to nominate leaders in government accountability who have made outstanding contributions to AGA and to the field of government financial management. These awards will be presented at AGA’s 57th Annual Professional Development Conference & Exposition, set for July 27– 30, 2008 in Atlanta, GA. Submit your nominations by April 4, 2008. National Academic Scholarships are also available. Applications are due March 31, 2008. Here is a list of the awards, and who they are designed to formally recognize:

Robert W. King Award—Any AGA member, except individuals serving on the National Executive Committee or employees of AGA at the time the award is presented, whose superior service has enhanced AGA's national prestige and stature.

Einhorn-Gary Award—Any AGA member or organization that has, over a sustained period of time, made major contributions to advancing government accountability at the federal, state and/or local level.

Frank Greathouse Distinguished Leadership Award—Government employees who have demonstrated sustained, outstanding leadership and notable contributions to financial management. The award is also designed to encourage increased interest, growth, development and distinctive leadership in the field of financial management.

Achievement of the Year Award—Leaders who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in developing, implementing and improving financial management in government service in the past year.

Educator Award—Individuals who have made significant contributions to the education and training of government financial managers.

Cornelius E. Tierney/Ernst & Young Research Award—Individuals who throughout their careers (minimum of 15 years) have made continuous contributions to governmental financial management by their direct participation in research activities and/or through their encouragement and support of others engaged in government financial management research. AGA presents a crystal award and a $1,000 check for this honor each year.

International Achievement Award—Leaders who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in international government financial management. 

Chapter Education Award—Chapters that have done an outstanding job in providing educational programs to its members and other accountability professionals.

Chapter Service Award—Individuals who have played key roles in establishing a new chapter, or improving an existing chapter. These would be individuals who, for example, played key roles in developing innovative programs, increasing attendance and participation, bringing substantive recognition and credit to chapter activities, or improving communications with chapter members. National committee work and/or holding of a national office are not factors in consideration for this award.

Community Service Award—Chapters that have done an outstanding job volunteering in their communities.

Chapter CGFM Award—Chapters that have done an outstanding job in promoting the CGFM Program to its members, other accountability professionals and community members.

Emerging Leader Award of Excellence—Younger government financial managers for notable contributions toward excellence in financial management. It is hoped that this recognition will encourage others to achieve early in their professional lives.

NEW! Regional Coordinator AwardRegional Coordinators who have done an outstanding job in assisting chapters in the areas of certification, chapter assistance and development, education and membership/early careers.

Are you or a family member pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in disciplines such as accounting, auditing, budgeting, economics, finance, information technology, public administration, etc.? If so, consider applying for an AGA National Academic Scholarship today.

Each year, AGA National awards:

  • Up to four $3,000 full-time merit scholarships.
  • One $1,000 part-time merit scholarships.
  • One $3,000 community service scholarship.
