CGFM Examinations—Information for the Candidates
Dear CGFM Candidate,

You’ve taken an important step by applying for the CGFM Program. In today’s uncertain times, having a professional certification can be very beneficial in your current or future employment. If you have not yet scheduled your CGFM Examination(s), take the time to do it now. Here are some tips to help you be more successful in taking the examinations:
- Review the examinations content outline. The outline lists all of the main and sub-topics covered in each examination. It has been used both by the question writers to create examination questions and by study guide writers to update the study guides. This should be the focal point of your preparation. Don’t forget to take a look at the list of acronyms used on the examinations.
- Customize your preparation process. AGA offers several options for preparing for the CGFM examinations, including instructor-led courses, study guides and Intensive Review Courses. Review each option to determine what works best for your study and learning styles. The examinations are rigorous. Don’t underestimate the need to study and be prepared.
- Consider using CGFM Study Guides along with other resources. AGA offers three study guides that provide comprehensive overviews of the topics covered in each CGFM Examination. While the study guides provide an excellent foundation in preparation for the exams, candidates may need to go beyond the study guides and review additional materials. In addition to the reference materials listed at the end of each study guide, see the list of study references on the AGA website—these publications were used as references by examination question writers.
- NEW! Go through the sample questions. These questions are designed to provide you with a sampling of the format and types of questions you can expect on the examinations. The study guide quizzes and end-of-course review questions found in the CGFM Study Guides, while important study tools, are not designed to serve as sample CGFM Examination questions, but as a self-assessment tool to help in your study preparation.
- Use the score report as your guide. If you don’t pass a CGFM Examination, you’ll receive a report that shows your performance by content area (content areas are found on the examinations content outlines). Use that information to help you focus your study efforts for the Examination retake. Schedule it as soon as you are eligible.
You’ve already made an important commitment to your professional development—complete your CGFM designation and join the ranks of professionals enjoying the benefits of being a CGFM! |
