Government Finance Case Challenge

The New AGA Government Finance Case Challenge Begins on Oct. 15 - Is Your Local University Registered to Participate?

We need your chapter's help to promote AGA's new
Government Finance Case Challenge to colleges and universities across the country.

  • Are you still in touch with your alma mater?
  • Is your chapter trying to make connections with faculty, staff and students at a local university?

Use this case challenge as a way to open doors! Plus, if you assist AGA, your chapter is eligible to receive chapter recognition points.

How Can Your Chapter Help?

1. Contact your local university and speak with faculty from the accounting, business or public administration departments. Make a phone pitch, send them an e-mail or ask if you can post information about the challenge on the department bulletin board, classrooms or on their website. Or, contact the Beta Alpha Psi faculty sponsor at the university.

2. Find chapter volunteers to act as mentors to the student teams that decide to participate in this challenge. We have teaching notes that will assist your mentoring efforts.

We are inviting the best undergraduate accounting/financial management students in the country to compete in the new Government Finance Case Challenge.

The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 12, 2007. On the following Monday, student teams will receive their case, which centers on how a U.S. city government implements a performance management system. Written responses, due Oct. 29, will be judged, and the two highest-scoring teams will receive a scholarship to attend AGA's National Leadership Conference, set for Feb. 21-22, 2008, in Washington, D.C.

Teams will present their finalized solutions before a panel of federal/state/local government leaders, corporate partners and CFOs on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008. The winning teams will be announced at the Corporate Partner Reception on Thursday evening. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning team. Each student participant will receive a free one-year membership to AGA.

Students will compete with teams from various colleges around the country. The experience promises to challenge students' moral reasoning, raise their awareness of the importance of government accountability and open doors to a future career in government.
