AGA TODAY

Highlights

The GAR Report is a monthly summary of membership numbers by chapter. In the Chapter Recognition Program, up to 3,000 credits are available in the Membership Section in the areas of Base Growth, New Member Acquisition and Retention.

The GAR lists chapters by size (Group A = 300 or more members; Group B = 150-299 members, etc.). We also publish a GAR by region. It may be useful to see how individual regions compare. Don’t remember what the columns and numbers mean? Read a detailed explanation of the GAR Report.

Finalists Selected in AGA Government Finance Case Challenge
North Carolina State University and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville were selected as the finalist teams in AGA’s Third Governance Finance Case Challenge. We received entries from 23 universities. Each team constructed a four-page Citizen-Centric Report for a fictional U.S. city. The two teams will attend AGA’s National Leadership Conference, Feb. 18–19 in Washington, D.C. to offer a final presentation about their reports to a panel of judges.

AGA Gives Back for the Holidays
This year, the AGA National Office staff decided to focus on the community and participated in the Toys for Tots annual toy drive. With the combined efforts of AGA staff and a few NEC members, we collected 75 toys. We also collected donations on behalf of Linkages to Learning’s Operation Warm-Up, which gives new and gently used coats to area children. The National Office staff would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

NLC Registration and Housing Now Open
Make plans now to attend AGA’s National Leadership Conference (NLC), to be held Feb. 18-19, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Hear from a stellar lineup of speakers, participate in informative sessions, share best practices, discover innovative management techniques and see the technological tools that can aid efficiency and improve effectiveness.

In addition to an outstanding technical education program, and the ability to earn 14 CPE hours, AGA’s NLC is packed with opportunities to network, make professional connections and meet new friends. Show your commitment to a more accountable future—register by fax or online today!

We reserved a block of rooms at the JW Marriott to accommodate NLC attendees. The rate is $207 per night (plus tax) until Jan. 29, 2010. Reservations received after Jan. 29, or after the room block has been filled, will be made on a space-available basis, and may be subject to higher rates.

AGA’s First Early Career Month
To help AGA prepare for the future, we must nurture the next generation of leaders and workers capable of managing the challenges ahead. With many government employees nearing retirement, a large number of opportunities are opening for emerging leaders. This is precisely why we are dedicating the month of February to Early Career members.

AGA’s Early Career membership category is a great opportunity for learning, networking and growth within the field of financial management for those who are in the early stages of their career. Early Career members represent the diversity of the field including a wide array of individual and organizational demographics. For more information on the types of programming that your chapter can do to reach out to this demographic, please contact Rodneikka Scott.

Tell the rising stars within your place of employment about the benefits of joining AGA. You can demonstrate your support of future leaders by inviting them to attend chapter functions or by joining AGA today. For more information go to AGA’s Tomorrow’s Professionals page.

New Criteria Created for AGA's Annual Newsletter and Website Contests
At our annual leadership session for chapter communicators at the 2009 PDC in New Orleans, some of you expressed an interest in updating the newsletter and website contest criteria, which hadn’t been revised in several years. The task force was formed in September and has finished its work.

Visit the website for details on the updates the task force made to the contests. See the rating sheets for the newsletter contest and the website contest.

Special thanks go to Roger Mazula, CGFM, New York Capital Chapter, for chairing the meetings, developing the rating sheets and sharing his many years of experience with the group

Task force members studied the criteria used by other associations and thoroughly discussed various options to come up with the updated criteria. Thank you to the task force members, who gave so generously of their time: Christina Lilly, Baltimore; Sarah Feltus, Central Kentucky; Deb Fraley, CPA, Ozarks; Bob Kanaga, CGFM-Retired, Fort Worth; Corinne Dougherty, CGFM, CPA, Montgomery/Prince George’s County; Joanne Kmets Walsh, CGFM, Cleveland; Walt Darling, Topeka; Riley Shaull, CGFM, CPA, Oklahoma City; and Alex Guiang, CGFM, Silicon Valley.
