Journal Classified Advertising Rates

The place for government accountability products and services-training, consulting, web offerings and more!

Word Count

The following are considered one word for counting purposes:

  • Two-letter initials
  • Abbreviations
  • Any number sequences containing a $ sign and five or fewer numbers
  • Telephone numbers To list a post office box, P.O. is one word and the box number is a second word. Cities and states consisting of more than one word (New York, San Diego) count as one word as do zip codes. Internet and e-mail addresses count as two words. There is no charge for regular punctuation.

Style

All classified ads are typeset in a uniform style. They will be justified with the first three words set in all capital letters with bold type. No abnormal capitalization, illustrations or visuals of any kind will be permitted.

Minimum ad: one column inch

Advertisements can be purchased in half-inch increments over the one-inch minimum. Column width is 13.5 picas. In one pica there are 12 points, so the column size would be 13 picas and 6 points.

Display Ad Mechanical Requirements

All display ads are produced in four-color process unless otherwise specified by the advertiser. Pages are generated using the Macintosh version of Quark Express 4.0. Send ads generated in Quark Express 4.0 (or 3.32), PageMaker 6.0 or 6.5, along with image files, logos and true type fonts (no postscript fonts). Images should be saved as TIFF and/or EPS files generated in PhotoShop or Illustrator. Images for color process should be CMYK images only. Bitmapped or grayscale ads may be used for black and white ads.

All ad submissions must include a PDF composite of the entire ad. PDF files can not be used for final output. E-mail stuffed Mac files or zipped PC files containing the original design file, images, fonts and PDF to the Journal Advertising Sales Representative, Tom Egly, at tom.egly@tgdcom.com. All files must be stuffed or zipped, no exceptions. In the subject line of your e-mail message, please indicate the date of the issue(s) in which your ad is to appear: Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter.

Any costs incurred by The Journal as a result of an advertiser not conforming to the stated mechanical requirements will be billed to the advertiser.

Classified Headings

Advertisers must indicate in which of the following sections the ad should be place. Please choose only one heading. If no choice is indicated, the Journal staff will use its best judgment to place the ad accurately. Advertisers may not create new headings.

Circulation

The Journal of Government Financial Management was established in 1951. Rates are based on an average circulation of 17,000. Publication is not audited.

Closing and Issue Dates

Published quarterly the first week of March, June, September and December. Advertisements are due 45 days before the first of the month of the issue date (Jan. 15 for March, April 15 for June, July 15 for September, and October 15 for December). Cancellations will not be accepted after the closing dates.

Commission and Discounts

No agency discounts or commissions provided.

Payment Procedures

All classified ads must be paid in advance of publication. Make checks payable to the Association of Government Accountants. Submit checks to AGA at 2208 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301-1314. There is a $30 charge for all returned checks. Credit card payments are accepted. AGA accepts AMEX, VISA, MasterCard and Discover.

Contract Policies

  1. All advertisements are accepted with the assumption that the individual or agent placing the ad is authorized to do so. The advertiser/and or agency indemnifies the Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management and TGD Communications harmless from and against any loss or expense resulting from publication of advertisements, including without limitation, those losses or expenses resulting from libel claims or suits, violation of privacy rights, plagiarism or copyright infringement. The advertiser will agree not to refer to the Journal of Government Financial Management without the express, written permission of the Journal staff.

  2. The advertiser agrees not to hold the Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management and TGD Communications liable in any way for failure to publish an issue or any part of an issue of the Journal of Government Financial Management due to strikes, work stoppages, accidents, fires, acts of God or any other occurrence outside the control of the Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management and TGD Communications.

  3. The advertiser's sole remedy in the event of breach of this contract or other conduct by the Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management or TGD Communications, including but not limited to production errors or failure to publish, shall be to seek a refund of the price paid by the advertiser to the Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management or TGD Communications for the advertisement in question. Under no circumstances shall the liability of the Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management or TGD Communications, individually and collectively, exceed such amount, nor shall they be liable for any special, indirect, or consequential damages.

  4. The Association of Government Accountants and the Journal of Government Financial Management reserve the right to reject or cancel any ad at any time for any reason.

  5. Advertising errors must be immediately reported to TGD Communications upon the publication of the first issue containing the ad. The Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management and TGD Communications will not be held responsible for errors occurring in subsequent issues containing the same ad if the errors are not reported after the initial publication.

  6. Position requests will not be accepted. The Journal does not provide advance proofs of classified ads. The Association of Government Accountants, the Journal of Government Financial Management and TGD Communications will not be bound by any conditions, restrictions or copy instructions, printed or otherwise, that conflict with those set forth by this rate card.

  7. All rates are subject to change with 60 days notice.
