Baltimore Chapter Spreads the Word about Government Finance to High School Students

The Early Careers Committee of AGA’s Baltimore Chapter is encouraging young people to consider a future in government finance by hosting a career day at a local high school and Job Shadow Day next month.

Baltimore Chapter President Deborah Kinsey of the Social Security Administration speaks to a group of young women at Southside Academy High School.

Early Careers Director Rashad Holloway coordinated a Dec. 18 event at Southside Academy of Environmental Science, a small high school in Baltimore City, and pulled in volunteer speakers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Inspector General, the Social Security Administration, Allmond and Company LLC, and even a representative from Men’s Wearhouse to talk about dressing for success.

The presenters talked about their own personal backgrounds, their careers and the importance of education. They shared inspiring stories about becoming professionals who can give back to their community. President Deborah Kinsey spoke to the young women separately about college and career success and discussed her experiences in Baltimore City Public Schools.

At the conclusion of the event, students received lunch and a great experience from interacting with positive professionals. The AGA Early Careers Committee plans to work with Southside students again on Feb. 26, when they host a Job Shadowing Day. Also involved in the event were: Michael Goode and Andrew Gibson from the EPA, Marvin Allmond and Tyrone Allmond of the CPA firm Allmond and Company, LLC, Eric Barrington of Men’s Wearhouse and Kyle Kinsey.
