AGA TOPICS Newsletter

From the National President
Jeffrey S. Hart, CGFM, CFE

In Creating Exceptional Value for Government Accountability Professionals, my theme for the year, I've said we are going to be guided by our core AGA values of Service, Accountability, Integrity and Leadership. Under our third AGA strategic value—Integrity—I've said that we always walk our talk and ensure that AGA is the best possible role model for all the important things we stand for.

Obviously, performance measurement and reporting is one of those things. In that spirit, I have developed a draft “AGA Performance Dashboard” to be discussed at our third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the year occurring this week, right after the NLC. This dashboard, just like the one in a car, will tell us at a glance how AGA is progressing on our “trip”—our trip to creating exceptional value for you. It will track AGA performance in producing the outputs and outcomes that are most important to us, and that will create or lead to exceptional value.

As the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats, and everything AGA does to elevate the stature of our profession comes back around to benefit YOU! So, the more effective AGA is in advancing government accountability, the more valuable we each become to our employers, the more valuable our organizations become to the American people, and the more valuable AGA becomes to all of us!

As you read this, I will be in our nation's capital attending AGA's Fifth Annual National Leadership Conference (NLC). Under our fourth AGA strategic value— Leadership—I've asked us to stretch ourselves, each one of us, to find and be the leader each one of us was meant to be. As Stephen Covey teaches, leadership is a choice, not a position. The theme of this conference is Forging New Paths to Improved Accountability, because as leaders it’s our job to find these new paths, especially in these challenging times. I look forward to seeing many of you there! Even if you can’t make the conference, please choose to be a leader, and forge some new paths. It really is a simple choice we each can make.

 Let's Stay Excited!
