From the National President
Sam M. McCall, MPA, CGFM, CPA, CIA, CGAP

Since the February National Leadership Conference, I have had the pleasure of participating in 14 chapter and regional events with three more chapter events planned for the remainder of May. I continue to meet members who are excited about AGA and volunteer a significant amount of their time to provide quality education events for the government financial management community.

In recent meetings, I have had the opportunity to listen to financial experts in federal, state and local government and the private sector and am very pleased to see the continuing presence of GASB members and staff at our conferences. I have also been impressed to see co-chairs of our national conferences take additional time out of their busy schedules to make presentations at chapter and regional Professional Development Conferences. Recently, J.D. Williams, CGFM, former Idaho state controller and now with Oracle, assisted me in loading my presentation on his computer for my comments to attendees. Whenever help is needed, AGA members come together to get the job done. Read more from National President McCall.

Past National Treasurer Charles W. Culkin Jr., CGFM, to Receive AGA’s Highest Honor, the Robert W. King Memorial Award
Long before AGA had two Certified Meeting Professionals on staff to oversee conferences like the PDC, Charlie Culkin was the one you’d see running around with a clipboard and a walkie-talkie. He managed the technical committees, worked with the hotels and kept the events on budget—all as a volunteer member. For this and many other contributions to the Association, Charles W. Culkin Jr. will receive AGA’s highest honor, the Robert W. King Memorial Award, in June. Charlie will also receive the Washington, D.C. Chapter’s Robert W. King Memorial Award this spring. Read the story.

AGA Launches New Web Section Devoted to Students and Early Careers
The headlines continue to read, “Human Capital Crisis Looms for the Government”, so AGA has taken a step forward to proactively reach out to college students and early careers. Aptly named, ‘Tomorrow’s Professionals,’ this section is full of information about: becoming a government financial manager; resources; news headlines; events; scholarships; and a career center. The career center is designed to only offer job/internship/co-op information applicable to a college student’s level of understanding. If you, your agency, or company are looking for the best and the brightest, look no further than this career center. We are also offering a discounted introductory rate for posting a job or gaining the ability to review posted resumes in this section until August 1.

Let this section become a resource for your chapter activities, too. If you have an early career/student event, or a chapter scholarship to advertise, please let us know and we’ll add it. Contact jcurtin@agacgfm.org, or at 800.242.7211, ext. 340.

AGA is charging forward to help the government. Visit this new section!
