Renew Today!

Annual membership renewals were due to be paid by March 31, 2006. If you have already renewed your membership, we thank you and look forward to serving you in the year to come.

By far the easiest (and quickest) way to renew is online through the password-protected Members Only section of the AGA website. Login using your membership ID number and password and press the ‘billing’ button at the top right hand corner of the screen. The transaction will automatically process via our secure server and the renewal information will be automatically updated in AGA’s in-house membership system. While you are logged in, please take a moment to review your membership information and update any incorrect items.

Audio Conference Scheduled for June 14
GASB Statement No. 44, Economic Condition Reporting: The Statistical Section—an amendment of NCGA Statement 1, is the subject of an audio conference scheduled for June 14.

NASACT, in conjunction with AGA, N.A.L.G.A. and the National Association of College and University Business Officers, is pleased to announce the latest in its series of audio conferences addressing timely issues in government financial management.

The topic for this audio conference, GASB Statement No. 44, is the first update in 25 years of the standards guiding the preparation of the statistical section of a CAFR. Join us Wednesday, June 14, from 2 – 3:50 p.m., EDT. Speakers are Dean Mead, Project Manager, Governmental Accounting Standards Board; Eric Berman, Deputy Comptroller, Commonwealth of Massachusetts; Anne Fritz, Finance Manager, Westlake, Ohio; representative from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (for the higher education perspective); and Dan Bonnette, Deloitte.

PDC Golf Tournament Registration Extended Until June 1
It’s not too late to register! Registration for the PDC Golf Tournament has been extended until Thursday, June 1. Join us on Saturday, June 17 at the Riverwalk Golf Club for a relaxing game of golf. The PDC Golf Tournament is a great way to have fun and meet new people. Fee: $35 per person: Includes greens fees, golf cart, gratuities, range balls, breakfast, lunch and transportation. The tournament begins at 8 a.m., shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded at the end of play. Space is limited to 88 players. Transportation will be provided from the San Diego Marriott Hotel.

RSVP for 2006 National Board of Directors Meeting
It's time for the annual National Board of Directors (NBD) gathering and leadership updates at the PDC. The meeting will take place on Sunday, June 18 with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the San Diego Ballroom – Salon C. All are welcome, but our 2005-2006 program year leaders are especially encouraged to attend! At this year’s NBD meeting Steve Kretzer of Industry Insights will review AGA’s 2006 membership survey and two bylaws changes will be voted on as long as quorum is met. If you are a member of the NBD please RSVP your attendance to Rosanna Ortiz, by June 9, 2006.

AGA Awards Nine Certificates of Excellence In Accountability Reporting at Black-Tie Dinner in Washington
Last Wednesday, more than 200 accountability professionals gathered at the National Press Club to recognize the nine federal agencies that received AGA's prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Accountability Reporting (CEAR) for their Fiscal Year 2005 Performance & Accountability Reports. The recipients were:

  • Department of Labor (6)
  • Department of State (4)
  • Federal Aviation Administration (3)
  • Government Accountability Office (5)
  • Nuclear Regulatory Commission (5)
  • Patent and Trademark Office (4)

(The number in parenthesis after each agency indicates the number of years, including this year, that the agency has received the award.)

Clay Johnson III, acting director and deputy director for management at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, applauded the efforts of the agencies and AGA to continuously improve the quality and usefulness of the reports. Read the story.

Member Happenings
Susan Breshears, a member of AGA’s Kansas City Chapter, completed her master’s degree in business administration from Rockhurst University on May 14, 2006.

Charles L. Harrison, CGFM, CPA, a member of AGA's Nashville Chapter and an AGA Past National President, is the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding CPA in Government Award. The award will be presented at the TN Society of Certified Public Accountants Annual Conference at the Peabody in Memphis in June. This prestigious award recognizes the distinguished contribution to your government employer, to state and national professional organizations and to the growth and enhancement of the profession. Harrison is assistant to the Comptroller for Management Services, Comptroller of the Treasury, State of Tennessee.

John J. Romero, CGFM, a member of AGA's Sacramento Chapter, and a budget analyst at the California Department of Justice, and his wife Cynthia welcomed their first child to their family. Andrew Lewis Romero was born on May 10. He was 8 pounds, 10 ounces and 22 inches long.
