By: Renee Gilman, CGFM
Who would’ve thought that we could top last year’s raffle
proceeds of $17,000? Well, obviously each and every one of you thought
just that. This year, we raised $22,055 in just over three days in San
Diego CA. Thank you so much for your continued support of our community
service raffle! More than 60 chapters donated prizes to the
raffle—everything from salmon to lobsters to autographed jerseys
to autographed books. As usual, we can’t do these raffles without
the support of the chapters. In addition, we had contributions from
more than 20 exhibitors! Read more about the raffle and plans for the money raised.

From the National President
Jeffrey S. Hart, CGFM, CFE
I was very
pleased to accept the gavel as your National President at the recent
PDC, and I'm humbled to be included among the many giants of our
profession who have held the AGA gavel before me. As some of you have
already heard me say over the last year as President-Elect,
I am Excited to Serve! And I want
you to get excited too because we have lots
of good reasons to get excited. We need your help, and every ounce of
energy you put into AGA comes back to benefit
you in real, tangible ways! Before I go any
further, I want to thank my predecessor, Immediate Past National
President Sam M. McCall, CGFM, for his outstanding leadership over the
last year.
Sam epitomizes the phrase, “a scholar, and a gentleman,”
and I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to continue the
great work he did last year.
I want to thank the Honorable Nikki
Tinsley, the recently retired EPA Inspector General, and my
new boss, Acting EPA Inspector General William
Roderick, for supporting me in accepting this honor. I also
want to thank the Nominating Committee and all my AGA friends and
mentors who have taught and encouraged me along the way. I especially
want to thank my wife Roxy who has always been the biggest supporter of
all my dreams, including the one that came true the day I accepted the
gavel as your National President. Read more about President Hart's plans for the coming
year.

CPAG
Research Update
June was a busy month for the Corporate Partner Advisory
Group (CPAG) Research Program. Two CPAG Research Reports were issued
and we had nine research project presentations at the 2006 PDC in San
Diego, highlighting just how the program has grown. Reports Nos. 5 and
6, Challenges in Performance Auditing: How a State
Auditor with Intriguing New Performance Auditing Authority is Meeting
Them, and PAR: The Report We Hate to Love were
both issued in June 2006 and distributed at the 2006 PDC in San Diego.
Please contact Susan
Fritzlen if you would like a hardcopy of either report.
Report No. 5, sponsored by Accenture,
documents the initial actions taken by Washington State Auditor
Brian Sonntag to implement the provisions of the initiative
and prepare to conduct performance audits throughout the state. The
report can act as a template for other state auditors when faced with a
similar challenge.
Report No. 6 is the first cooperative
project with PricewaterhouseCoopers taking the lead and supported by
representatives from AOC Solutions, Booz Allen Hamilton, CSC and IBM.
The report discusses current perceptions of the PARs and recommends
ways to increase their usefulness to their intended audiences.
The presentation on 21st Century
Federal Financial Managers: Are New Competencies Required? was
very well received at the PDC, attracting 359 session attendees and
having to turn away others. This is one of our most recent research
projects and is sponsored by Management Concepts. We continue to start
new projects, such as one on SAS 70 Audits, and welcome ideas for the
program, for either cooperative or sponsored research projects. Please
contact Anna Miller, AGA
director of Research for more information.
From the National
Office
AGA is
pleased to introduce Joseph E. Jozefczyk as its new
director of Education. Jozefczyk retired in May 2003 after more than 30
years with the U.S. General Accounting Office (now the Government
Accountability Office). His last position with GAO was an assistant
director with the Tax Policy and Administration group, but he had also
served as a Human Resource and Operations director for a 450-plus
member operating division. Jozefczyk and his staff of 12 were
responsible for recruiting, hiring, counseling, appraisals, training,
audit assignments and more. Away from the office, he is
an avid runner and tennis player. He is certified by
the U.S. Professional Tennis Association as a developmental coach
and coaches at a local Virginia high school . He and his wife
Colleen have a grown son and daughter. They live in Burke, VA.
“What a great team we have here at AGA,” Jozefczyk said.
“I hope to be able to add to that tradition.” He welcomes any comments or
suggestions on ways to improve AGA’s education program.
Welcome Joe! |
