Performance
Auditing Focus of Next Audio Conference
AGA, in conjunction with the National Association of State Auditors,
Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and the Association of Local
Government Auditors (ALGA), is pleased to announce a new audio
conference addressing Risk Assessments for Performance Auditing, set
for 2 – 3:50 p.m. EDT Sept. 14, 2006. The audio conference, worth
2 CPE hours, is designed to help participants understand how a
risk-based audit approach can be an important tool for evaluating
program compliance, economy, efficiency and effectiveness. Speakers are
Beth Ashcroft, MBA, CIA, Director of the Office of
Program Evaluation and Government Accountability for the State of
Maine, and Gerald Silva, CGFM, CPA, City Auditor for
the City of San Jose, CA. Cost is $249 per site if you register before Sept. 8.
SAS No. 112: Impact on
Auditors and Preparers
NASACT, in conjunction with AGA and ALGA, is pleased to
announce an audio conference on AICPA Statement on Auditing Standards
No. 112, which establishes standards and provides guidance on
communicating matters related to an entity’s internal control
over financial reporting identified in an audit of financial
statements. The audio conference, worth 2 CPE hours, is set for 2
– 3:50 p.m. EDT on Oct. 19. Speakers are Randy
Roberts, Director of Professional Practices, Office of the
Auditor General, state of Arizona, and Arizona State Comptroller
Clark Partridge. Cost is $249 if you
register before Oct. 13.

AGA Past National President Jeffrey C.
Steinhoff, CGFM, CPA, a member of AGA's Northern Virginia
Chapter, was named the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants' (AICPA) 2006 Outstanding CPA in Government, representing
the federal sector. Steinhoff, known throughout AGA as the father of
the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) Program, is the
managing director, Financial Management and Assurance, U.S. Government
Accountability Office. Also named a 2006 Outstanding CPA in Government,
representing the docal government sector, was Carla E. Sledge,
CGFM, CPA, a member of AGA's Detroit Chapter. Sledge is the
chief financial officer, Charter County of Wayne, Michigan. AGA extends
its congratulations to Jeff and Carla! Read

Past National
Treasurer Evelyn Brown, CGFM, a member of AGA's
Washington, D.C. Chapter, will retire Friday after more than 40 years
of federal service. She is the deputy chief financial officer, U.S.
Office of Personnel Management. AGA wishes Evelyn a long and happy
retirement!
