From the National President, Jeffrey
S.
Hart, CGFM, CFE
I recently returned from our Second
Annual National Performance Management Conference in Schaumburg, IL,
which represents one of the most exciting ways we are creating value
for you in AGA. I believe that our two performance measurement and
reporting programs—our Certificate of Excellence in
Accountability Reporting (CEAR) for federal agencies, and our
Certificate of Excellence in Service Efforts and Accomplishments (SEA)
Reporting for state and local government entities—are a critical
part of the future of AGA and our profession. This annual conference is
making AGA and our profession the leaders in
improving and expanding government performance measurement and
reporting.
Looking back 30 years to when I went to work
for the government and joined AGA, I would have never guessed that we
would be in the forefront of performance reporting. At the same time,
it’s a natural for us in the government
financial management profession. Our profession, and our Association,
has always stood for accountability, transparency and using data to
make sound management decisions. If accounting is the language of
business, then it is also a critical language of government, especially
if the numbers and words of this language are presented in a way that
effectively tells a story about the business of government—a
story that an average citizen can easily understand and make decisions
about how well their government is performing. Read more from President Hart about AGA's Performance
Reporting efforts. NLC Registration Brochure Now

Public
Sector Scorecarding—Now a Tool of Choice
Once used primarily in the private sector, scorecarding has made its
way into the public sector and is showing staying power as a tool to
drive excellence. Scorecarding systems as a management tool can help
you measure, manage, and communicate strategic plans in your
organization. Their increased popularity has led to more sophisticated
systems, which in turn can reap larger benefits. Learn more about what
top factors have increased the use of scorecarding in
government and why an enterprise scorecarding system can
fulfill their needs. Download this free whitepaper.
