Research Program Update AGA’s CPAG
Research Program creates research projects of value to governments,
industry and the AGA membership. Two major types of research are
conducted under the program: sponsored and cooperative, with
cooperative tending to have a shorter (90-day) timeframe, and
sponsored being of a longer, continuing nature.

CGFM: Multiple Benefits for Multiple Clients
Why become a
Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) if you work for the
private sector? The benefits of earning the CGFM for government
accountability professionals are well known, but two members of
AGA’s Corporate Partner Advisory Group (CPAG) recently talked about
how the CGFM helps their private sector organizations and the
clients they serve.

First CPAG Breakfast A
Success!
On December 7, more than 100 public and private
sector executives gathered at the National Press Club in Washington,
D.C., to hear a discussion with Dr. Linda Combs, Controller, U.S. Office
of Management and Budget (OMB). AGA and Government Executive magazine
hosted this first in a new series of breakfast meetings, Meet the
Financial Management Policy-Makers. This event was Dr. Combs’ first
public appearance since the November 15 close of the 2005 federal fiscal
year. Dr. Combs’ offered her initial overview of the process and
preliminary results of the financial reports submitted to OMB. Corporate
Partners in attendance were able to network with government executives,
such as federal CFOs and IGs, before the program started. Stay tuned for
information on the next breakfast, which is tentatively scheduled for
late February.
Latest Research Report Now Published—Third in the
CPAG Research Program
Trends and
Techniques covers compliance management, business process
management, project portfolio management, RFID and wireless
communications. The report analyzes each topical area and discusses
its implications for functional management. The report describes how
the technologies may be applied, key components and definitions, and
anticipated benefits from implementation. Accounting Education
(ACCOUNTINGEDUCATION. COM) picked up our news release and has a link
to the report, publicizing it as follows: AGA CPAG RESEARCH STUDY
POINTS TO THE SIGNIFICANT IMPACT TECHNOLOGY MAKES TOWARDS
ACCOUNTABILITY IN GOVERNMENT FUNCTIONAL MANAGEMENT. Also the
Institute of Internal Auditors is going to highlight it in the Feb.
1, 2006 of its GAP News.
The report is the product of a research project
sponsored by CSC’s Federal Consulting Practice. Andrew C. West, CSC
Partner for Functional Management Solutions, led this effort. He was
aided by Carlo D. Smith, Ph.D., Deborah J. Detwiler, CPA, and Paul
Kaman. Click here to download a

CPAG Dinner Series
The CPAG dinners continue to sell out each month
and have become an extremely valuable benefit. These dinners are an
opportunity for AGA Corporate Partners to come together in an
informal setting to meet with high-level government accountability
leaders, such as a federal Chief Financial Officer (that is, this
gets you an introduction that you might not get otherwise). It also
gives you an opportunity to network with other AGA Corporate
Partners. All dinners are held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Crystal
City, VA.
Up coming dinners
include:
- January 10—Michael Hettinger,
Staff Director, House of Representatives Committee on Government
Reform, Subcommittee on Government Management, Finance and
Accountability
- February 7—Samuel T. Mok, CGFM,
CFO, Department of Labor.
Contact Susan Fritzlen if you would like to
attend one of these dinners. We will pass along new dates/speakers
as they are confirmed. Remember, only AGA Corporate Partners can
take advantage of these dinners.
AGA Corporate Partner Logo Usage and Guidelines
Did you know that you can use the AGA Corporate Partner logo in
your publications and on your website? Some of AGA’s Corporate
Partners have also placed the logo on giveaway items (pens, water
bottles, etc.), in print advertisements and on business cards (see
below). AGA is proud to list you as a Corporate Partner in all of
our media outlets and we hope you will do the same.
To request a copy of the logo or to answer any
questions about using the logo, please contact Susan Fritzlen. Like many companies
today, AGA closely follows a corporate identity program, which sets
forth guidelines for using the AGA logo. Click here
to view the guidelines.
