National Governing Board: Director (for Chapters) Positions

Nominations will open January 2022

  • Chapters will be asked to appoint their 2022-2023 representatives to the National Council of Chapters (NCC) in January 2022.
  • In February, the Leadership Development Committee (LDC) will seek four leaders to serve as 20212-2024 Directors (for Chapters) of the National Governing Board (NGB). 
  • 2022-2023 National Council of Chapters (NCC) members in Areas 1, 3, 5 and 7 of the Council will be invited to self-nominate for a Director (for Chapters) position. 


Those selected will take office on July 1, 2022, and will serve a two-year term of office.

Qualifications needed 

Per AGA's National Bylaws, to serve as Director (for Chapters), a nominee should be an AGA member in good standing and have a professional background commensurate with the position.

The individual must serve concurrently as chapter representative on the NCC. No person who has served as a Director (for Chapters) may serve another term in that same position until a period of at least two years has passed following the end of their most recent term.

In addition, candidates should, at a minimum, possess the following desired characteristics of nominees for elected office:

  • Leadership ability.
  • Passion for AGA and its mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • think strategically.
    • work as a team member.
    • communicate effectively and interact personally with all types of individuals.
    • speak publicly.
  • Ability to commit the time required by the position.
  • Ability to support majority decisions and to compromise when needed.
  • Ability to understand the impact of issues on a national level.

Nomination Process

  • NCC Representatives will be invited in January/February to self-nominate online for Director (for Chapters) positions by the February 19 nomination deadline. “Endorsements” for NGB candidates are unnecessary and will not be recognized. View PDF of nomination form.
  • AGA's National Bylaws do not permit campaigning for any elective offices.
  • All submissions will be forwarded to the LDC,* who will contact the nominees. In April, the LDC will recommend one candidate per position for NGB approval.
  • Nominees will be notified of the slate of candidates no later than April 30. 
  • The NGB-approved slate of candidates assumes office on July 1, 2022.

*The Leadership Development Committee is made up of  the immediate Past National President, the immediate Past National Treasurer, one federal government representative, one state government representative, one local government representative, one private sector representative, one academic representative, one young professional, and AGA's CEO (non-voting).
