AGA Honors Seven Government Financial Managers for Outstanding Service to the Profession
 
(WASHINGTON, D.C., FEBRUARY 16, 2017) — AGA was pleased to honor seven government financial managers for their work advancing the profession and for their dedication to making government more accountable, efficient and transparent. AGA honored the men and women in ceremonies Feb. 15-16 at its annual National Leadership Training, a two-day event focused on best practices in leadership and management in government financial management.

The honorees were from federal, state and local governments nationwide:
 
  • Gary T. Engel, CGFM, CPA, Managing Director, Financial Management and Assurance, U.S. Government Accountability Office. Engel was given the Elmer Staats Award honoring cumulative career achievements of federal professionals.
  • Chip Fulghum, Deputy Under Secretary for Management, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Fulghum was given the Distinguished Federal Leadership Award honoring elected or presidentially appointed federal officials.
  • Wendy Morton-Huddleston, CGFM, PMP, Principal, Grant Thorton LLP. Morton-Huddleston was given the Andy Barr Award honoring the cumulative career achievements of private-sector financial executives.
  • Harriet M. Richardson, MBA, CPA, CIA, CGAP, CRMA, City Auditor, City of Palo Alto. Richardson was given the Excellence in Government Leadership Award, which honors the cumulative career achievements of state or local government professionals.
  • John F. Sopko, Inspector General, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. Sopko was given the Distinguished Federal Leadership Award honoring elected or presidentially appointed federal officials.
  • Cindy Stein, CPA, Auditor, Greene County. Stein was given the Distinguished Local Government Leadership Award, which honors local government professionals.
  • Marsi Woody, CGFM, Financial Executive Officer, Idaho State Police. Woody was given the William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award, which honors state government professionals.

Doug Glenn, AGA National President, said the honorees represent the best of government financial management.
 
“They have dedicated their lives to ensuring the efficient use of taxpayer dollars,” Glenn said. “The fact that their colleagues, employers and employees nominated them speaks volumes about their commitment to the profession and the impression they make on those around them."
