Wow, I can’t believe it has been a year and a half since I began as chapter President.  As the 2018/2019 AGA year comes to a close I want to take a moment to look back on some of our chapter’s accomplishments.


  • We held our largest Charleston chapter Professional Development Training (PDT) this past November.  With over 130 attendees and 10 speakers, the annual PDT continues to be our flagship event.  The event was headlined by Mr. Thomas Harker, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy – Financial Management and Comptroller, who gave a great presentation on the impacts of the Department’s first ever audit.

  • We have continued our partnership with Charleston Southern University (CSU).  CSU plans to implement a government and non-for-profit accounting course, implementing AGA’s material, and culminating in examination for the CGFM® certification.

  • We added a new Platinum chapter sponsor, Kearney & Company, who joins our other four Platinum sponsors CGI Federal, Haynes Incorporated, MIL Corporation, and SOSi.

  • We held our first ever joint event with American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) on May 1, 2019.  This mini-PDT featured three free credit hours of CPE exclusively for members.  Topics ranged from leadership, to communication, and a very interesting Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Panel with representatives from the Department of Defense OIG, Department of State OIG, Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), and Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) OIG.


So, what’s next for our chapter?  I would like to welcome Megan Jones as the incoming chapter President beginning in July.  Megan has been with AGA for four years and brings great credentials to this role.  We are already coordinating the annual Charleston Chapter PDT for November 2019.  Please be on the lookout for more information.  Additionally, as your outgoing President, starting in July I will be transitioning to represent our chapter on the National Council of Chapters (NCC).  In this role I will facilitate our Chapter’s connection to the AGA’s National Governing Board.

Speaking of PDT, I hope to see some of you at the AGA’s National PDT in New Orleans from July 21st – 24th.  It is AGA’s premier training and networking event and offers over 25 credit hours of CPE.  Megan and I will both be attending, so please reach out and let us know if you are planning to attend.  We would love to catch up at the event.
