The Ozarks Chapter of Association of Governmental Accountants is a local chapter of a National organization that focuses on governmental and not for profit accounting and finance related issues. We have monthly meetings that provide our members (and non members) with CPE that many of us need to maintain our certifications – although a certification is certainly not required to be a member, or a guest. Typically, our member rate is $10 per monthly meeting and the non member rate is $15 – lunch is always included! We have our meetings over the lunch hour, close to the downtown Springfield area so that employees can easily attend without missing work. We also have 2 full day seminar’s per year – providing 8 CPE each, one in the fall and one in the spring. Our membership is made up primarily of City of Springfield, MSU, Springfield Public Schools and Greene County employees – however, we do have additional members from local municipalities and businesses. Our organization is a great networking opportunity! Below are some highlights we have planned for program year 2016-17.
Education - We have 21 CPE hours planned for program year 2016-17. This year we will be hosting our National AGA CEO, Ann Ebberts at our Fall Seminar - Ann will be speaking on Data Transparency. Also at the Fall Semiar, we will have a speaker on White Collar Crime from the FBI. We also have a Spring Seminar that will have topics such as Cultural Differences in Ethics, an Economic Update (which is always fascinating) and Public Speaking.
Community Service - This year we are focusing our community service efforts on the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks, and we couldn't be more excited about it - we have big plans to make this an exciting year! We plan to fundraise throughout the year to purchase things from the house "wish-list" and serve breakfast twice during the year. Our first breakfast will be Saturday, September 17th - we would LOVE for our members to join together and make this great experience for our Chapter and the families at Ronald McDonald House.
Networking - Our members voiced in annual member survey that they would like to see more opportunities for networking - so we plan to accomodate! We currently have 3 networking events planned for the 2016-17 program year. Our first event will be a member appreciation bowling night in August. In addition we will also have a AGA Networking Happy Hour at Springfield Brewing Company after each full day seminar.
We enjoy having guests and would encourage you and your staff to attend our monthly meetings! If you have any questions about our organization, please let me or someone else on our executive committee know - our contact information can be found on the leadership page.
We look forward to meeting you!
