The Role of Sponsored Research Administrators in Institutes of Higher Education

This presentation will discuss the responsibilities of research administrators from “cradle to grave” to ensure that the federal and public funds are being utilized appropriately and that all terms and conditions of the award are being followed. Other specific areas include internal controls, subrecipient monitoring, financial and technical reporting requirements and cash management.

Pamela Ray

Pam joined Florida State University as the director of sponsored research administration in 2014. Her career in university research administration began over 25 years ago at Mississippi State University as a post-award accountant in the central Sponsored Programs Accounting office. Over the years she has held positions as business manager for the MSU’s college of engineering, program administrator for a major department of defense contract also with MSU, and most recently as the director of post award research administration at the University of Georgia. She holds both a bachelors and master’s degree in accounting from Mississippi State, is a Certified Research Administrator and Certified Public Accountant.

Angela Rowe

Angie has worked in the finance and accounting industry for over 20 years. She initially worked in banking for several years in the Treasury Management division prior to joining a local accounting firm where her duties included tax and financial statement preparation. Later, Angie gained governmental accounting experience while working at the Florida Department of Financial Services for 7 years in various management positions. She began her career in research administration with Florida State University in 2012 and now serves as Associate Director for post-award operations within Sponsored Research Administration. Angie earned a BS in Accounting and a BS in Finance from FSU. She also attained designation as a Certified Public Accountant in 2008.
