Welcome to the Washington DC Chapter 2019/2020 Program Year!

I am honored to serve as your Chapter President alongside our dedicated and hardworking Executive Committee, Committee Directors and many member volunteers. We begin the year in a great position for growth, learning, leadership and collaboration for all of our members and partners committed to advancing government accountability

I am excited as we enter our Chapter’s 70th year anniversary! With so many impactful leaders throughout our history, our Chapter is fortunate to have the influence of incredible past presidents and future leaders to guide us moving forward. We have a firm obligation to continue to provide platinum-level service to our members as we remain grounded in our Chapter’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and leadership.

As in previous years, our Chapter will offer numerous prospects for professional growth and development; networking; certification; and other benefits to our members. For example, in our effort to find ways to provide educational opportunities to our members, we will continue to offer the following education programs:

  • Spring Training Event – This is our premier training event, which will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building on March18-19, 2020. Through this program we offer 16 Continue Professional Education (CPE) hours. We have already started planning activities for this event.
  • Monthly Luncheon Program – We are planning to offer 8 luncheons from September 2019 through May 2020. As in the past, monthly luncheon meetings will be held with prominent speakers addressing a variety of financial management topics. Our first luncheon is scheduled on September 10, 2019 at the Hamilton. Each luncheon offers 1 CPE hour.
  • Audio Conferences – This program year, we have increased the number of audio conferences to a total of 8 sessions. These sessions are hosted by AGA National and each session offers 2 CPE hours. The first audio conference session is scheduled on December 11, 2019.
  • Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) Program – The CGFM is a professional certification awarded by AGA National. As in the past, our Chapter is responsible for supporting the CGFM program, as well as supporting and developing our members as they pursue or maintain their CGFM certification through the availability of study guides and practice exams.
  • Student Member Outreach Program Accounting Research WorkshopNew this year, through a generous donation by a Senior Advisor to the Chapter Executive Committee and in partnership with local university, students will have an opportunity to participate in the Chapter’s monthly luncheon program and enjoy the benefits of a free student membership. Through this donation program and other efforts, the Chapter will engage more directly and actively with Young Professionals/Student Members through closer coordination among our Membership, Mentorship, and Young Professionals Committees.

In addition, this year's program includes numerous opportunities for our members to network and give back to the community in a variety of ways. Our Member Services and Community Services Committees will be coordinating a number of activities throughout the program year designed with our members in mind. Such activities include multiple community service events (e.g., Food Bank, Soup Kitchen, and Toys for Tots), and a number of networking events (e.g., Attending Capitals/Wizards/Nationals sporting events; wine tour; and a number of happy hours).
