About Our Chapter

The Washington DC Chapter of AGA serves professionals in the government financial management community by providing quality continuing professional education, fostering professional development and certification, and supporting standards and research to advance government accountability.

AGA's Washington DC Chapter has been an active player in advancing government accountability. For 60 years we have been addressing the issues and challenges facing government financial managers. AGA's Washington DC Chapter has been an active player in advancing government accountability. September 2010 marked the Chapter's 60th anniversary. The Chapter's first 40 years of achievements and awards is captured in the Improving Governmental Financial Management and Serving Members: Commemorating 40 Years of Achievements 1950 - 1990.

2017/2018 AGA DC Chapter President

The 2017/2018 AGA DC Chapter President, Salim Mawani is a member of Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).  As Senior Advisor to the CFO, Mr. Mawani is responsible for providing expert financial management advice, strategic planning and operations support, organizational effectiveness, FMCSA’s policies, and special projects related to the agency’s financial management.  Mr. Mawani has over 25 years of experience serving both private and public sector organizations.

Prior to joining the FMCSA, Mr. Mawani served as the Senior Manager at the Smithsonian Institution leading the Financial Policies and Procedures Division.  Mr. Mawani also has prior experience as Senior Manager with EY and KPMG serving numerous federal government agencies.  His other experiences include serving as Vice President with AuditWatch and Manager with the U.S. GAO.  

Mr. Mawani graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS degree in accounting.  He is a CPA in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a CGFM.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Education Director for the AGA Washington DC Chapter.   

Mr. Mawani’s hobbies include bicycling, vacationing in and around national parks, and watching professional and collegiate football, either from the stands or his comfy couch.
