Tips for a Better AGA Virtual Training Experience

Use the BEST Internet CONNECTION You Can

  • Wired connections (ethernet) are better than wireless (WiFi or cellular) connections.
  • WiFi connections are better than cellular (3G/4G/LTE) connections.

CLOSE other Applications

Virtual meetings can demand significant memory and processing power from your computer. Closing applications that you will not need during the session will bolster your internet connection (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, VPN, other browser tabs).

AVOID other Activities that Steal Bandwidth

Avoid beginning other bandwidth-intensive activities just prior to or during virtual meetings; not only on your device but on other devices that share your internet connection (e.g. cell phones, TV's, printers)

  • Avoid large downloads/uploads during the session
  • Shut down any streaming video (e.g., Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.).
  • Pause cloud backups (e.g., Carbonite, CrashPlan).
  • Pause cloud file synchronizations (e.g., OneDrive, Dropbox).

MUTE Your MICROPHONE

All attendees are in listen-only mode. If you have your microphone running in the background, disable it. When your microphone is enabled, virtual platforms will devote part of your internet connection to an audio stream for you, even if you are not speaking. By disabling your microphone, you will allow the platform to use your internet connections more effectively.

STOP Your WEBCAM Video

If you have your webcam running in the background, disable or stop it. Only session speakers are showing their video.  You will not be asked to turn your webcam on at any point during the training. Again, this allows for a more effective internet connection.

DISABLE HD Webcam Video

Sending high-definition (HD) webcam video requires more bandwidth than non-HD. Disabling HD video will free up more of your internet connection for other parts of your virtual meeting.

TEST Your Connection & Device

Run the system compatibility checker to determine whether your system is compatible with the live broadcasting platform.  View the device/computer technical requirements.
