President’s Message
December 2018

Things are really getting cold outside, as we turn our gaze towards December and all of that holiday cheer, but also much holiday bustle, too. I hope that you had a great November and Thanksgiving day! In November we had an excellent discussion at our meeting on the 14th, at the Department of Education. Joel L. Waterfield led a very interesting discussion on Blockchain that I think gave all participants something to think about. Also, in November our chapter grew by one member. Welcome, Diane from the City of Mesa Transportation.

In December, we are looking forward to another live presentation. This presentation will be at 11:30 AM December 19th, at ASU Skysong. Our AGA National Treasurer, Dennis Green, CPA, CGFM, will present on the topic of Managing Resources through the Budget. This event will also be AGA’s annual holiday party. Come and enjoy the festivities and hear about this very important topic. There will also be opportunities to win the raffle. This event is worth two CPE. To register for the event, pay for the package deal, or check out our full event listing, head over to our Eventbrite site, at: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/aga-phoenix-chapter-2342352490 .

After our December meeting, we will again hold a board meeting, from 2 PM to 3 PM. Members are always welcome to these board meetings, to learn more about your board, or to participate as a committee member (e.g., education, community service, young professional, etc.). I highly recommend getting involved. After all, this is your Chapter, and your thoughts and ideas should be represented here. As always, though, you can share any feedback that you have with the board, at contact@agaphoenix.org.

Also, please be on the lookout for a survey that the Board will send out in early December, to get your feedback. We hope that you will take this opportunity to tell us how we are doing, and what, if anything, we can improve.

Dennis Green CPA CGFM, AGA National Treasurer will be discussing how the Government Publishing Office (GPO) used the budget process to help manage their constrained resources each year.  Dennis etired December 2016 as their Chief Accountant.  He will also provide insight into how AGA uses its budget process to manage our various programs.  The goal is for this to be an interactive exchange of practices between, Federal, State, and non-profit organizations.  The budget process is not an event that only takes place before the year begins.

This event will be our annual Holiday event.  At this event we will once again collect cans and non-perishable food items.  This time to support the FOX 10 food drive benefiting St. Vincent de Paul to feed the hungry this holiday season.  We will also collect toys at this event to benefit the Toys for Tots donation drive with the US Marine Core.  All toys donated for this event must be unwrapped.

Professional Ethics Update for Arizona CPAs

Constantly updated, this course is designed to meet the Arizona biennial four-hour ethics CPE requirement for CPAs renewing their licenses. In addition to meeting Arizona State Board of Accountancy requirements, the course includes materials designed to reinforce the CPA's practical understanding of professional ethics standards. In times such as those we are facing, all CPAs likely will be dealing with new and difficult challenges. These challenges will require that a CPA has a firm grasp of the professional ethics standards as well as an increased awareness of both accounting and business ethical issues.
