Welcome to the 2022–2023 program year! I want to thank you for your membership and support of AGA – THE government accountability association.
Let me take a moment to introduce myself for those of you who do not know me. My name is Mari Hughes and I am the current AGA Albuquerque Chapter President. I have called the City of Albuquerque my professional home for the last 15 years and I am currently the Deputy City Controller. Prior to coming to the City of Albuquerque, I was with the State of New Mexico in various positions for 9 years. I have been an AGA member for many years and this will be my fourth year on the Chapter Executive Committee (CEC). It has been a very rewarding experience to be a part of the CEC so, if you are interested in becoming more involved with the Chapter, please feel free to reach out to myself or any other member of the CEC. In addition to serving on the CEC, I was awarded my Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) designation in 2018, which has opened many doors for me. If you have been thinking about working towards your CGFM I highly encourage you to make this year the year you achieve that goal – you won’t regret it! The Chapter offers resources to help you in this journey so please feel free to reach out to Jennifer Baca, our CGFM Program Chair, or any other member of the CEC for more information.
The CEC members are currently working hard to plan a great upcoming program year for our membership. We value all members and are committed to continuing to provide education, community service and networking and growth opportunities to all our members. Considering your feedback, we will continue to offer the majority of our “lunch and learn” trainings in a virtual format and are also planning some great in person training sessions as well. With more and more events going to in person again, we are looking forward to holding a membership event and seeing you in person. In addition, we are planning some great community service activities.
I want to see the Albuquerque AGA Chapter reach new heights this year and beyond. I challenge each member to make AGA and our profession the best they can be. I look forward to working with you and hearing your ideas on how to make membership in the Albuquerque Chapter more valuable for you. Together, we can make a difference.
