Recap of Recent Events
The highlight for July for nine members of our chapter was certainly the 2017 AGA Professional Development Training in Boston held from July 9-12th. This was an excellent opportunity to meet other AGA members from across the country and earn up to 24 CPEs. Some of the excellent speakers included Gene L. Dodaro, Comptroller General, GAO, Dan Thurmon, who presented Off Balance on Purpose and amazed us with some powerful words and gymnastics moves. We were also inspired by the courage of Jessica Cox, the world’s first armless pilot who learned to fly with her feet and taught us to change our perspective and think outside the shoe. You can learn more about Jessica is her book “Disarm Your Limits.” https://www.jessicacox.com.
The conference included numerous concurrent sessions with learning tracks in various fields including accounting, auditing, finance, management services, and many more. The conference was also a lot of fun, with networking opportunities including breakfasts, lunches, and social events. The PDT is a great benefit of our association and provides very low cost CPEs. I encourage you to consider attending next year’s PDT. It will be held at the Orlando World Center Marriott from July 22-25, 2018.
News from the Chapter Executive Committee
Our Chapter Executive Committee met on July 21, 2017, to discuss plans for the coming year. We are considering offering some events outside the downtown Cleveland area. We discussed some alternate locations such as the Holiday Inn Rockside, Bahama Breeze Beachwood, Train Station Berea, or the Cleveland Public Library downtown. It would be fun to set up an event/tour where some of us work. If you have any ideas, please contact: Chapter President: Jacquelyn Hall-Carrillo, DFAS, president@agacleveland.org or Programs and Events: Louis Ockunzzi, DFAS and Terrence Flowers, NASA, events@agacleveland.org
