The Educator Award honors an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the education and training of government financial management professionals. Through teaching, mentoring, curriculum development, or other forms of knowledge-sharing, this individual has played a pivotal role in strengthening the capabilities and careers of current and future government financial managers.

Award Overview

One crystal award is presented annually at AGA’s Professional Development Training (PDT).
Recognizes excellence in advancing the education and professional development of the government financial management community.
Nominees may be from academia, government, or the private sector.
Nominees do not have to be AGA members or government employees.

Nominees should exemplify:

A sustained commitment to educating or training government financial professionals.
Development or delivery of high-impact educational content or programs.
Leadership in academic or professional settings that promote excellence in government financial management.

Dorothy Potter has distinguished herself by providing exceptional service since joining the National Defense University in October 2018, where she’s served as a department chair and professor of government financial management at the College of Information and Cyberspace. She consistently demonstrates outstanding initiative, steadfast dedication and the highest level of excellence in all phases of supporting the university’s mission and educating military and civilian leaders. Dorothy serves as the course director; teaches several CFO and joint professional military education courses; and educates joint warfighters, national security leaders and the cyber workforce to lead and advance cyber and information strategy, ensuring that the nation and its partners and allies achieve decisive advantages in the complex modern security environment.
