The Relmond P. Van Daniker Government Transparency Award recognizes a government entity that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to transparency through clear, effective, and accessible public communication. This award honors innovative reporting and presentation of financial or performance information that fosters public understanding and trust in government operations.

About Relmond P. Van Daniker

Relmond P. Van Daniker (1942–2016) was a national leader in government financial management and a lifelong advocate for accountability and transparency. With a career that spanned academia, state government, and association leadership, he was a pioneer in shaping governmental accounting standards and improving public access to financial information.

Van Daniker served as CEO of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) from 2003 to 2014, where he championed Citizen-Centric Reporting and modernized AGA’s role in promoting government transparency. He was also the founding executive director of NASACT and a professor of accounting at the University of Kentucky for over three decades. His legacy lives on in the professionals he mentored, the standards he shaped, and the transparency he tirelessly promoted.

  • Tools that help audiences understand results, decisions, or government operations
  • Innovative use of digital or visual platforms to reach broad audiences
  • Evidence of the report’s usage, impact, or influence on stakeholders or decisions
  • A commitment to open government and citizen engagement through financial transparency
