AGA offers a Certificate of Excellence in Citizen-Centric Reporting to recognize government entities that produce high-quality, engaging, and accessible Citizen-Centric Reports (CCRs). These reports must meet the program’s high standards for content, visual design, readability, distribution, and timeliness
Judging Guidelines
Each submitted CCR is reviewed by AGA, and constructive feedback is provided. To be eligible for the Certificate of Excellence, reports must be free of technical accounting jargon and include the following elements:
- Organizational Overview: A description of how the entity is structured and operates, including strategic goals or a mission/vision statement.
- Performance Highlights: Key accomplishments in mission and service delivery, supported by relevant performance measures.
- Trend Analysis: Year-over-year data showing changes in performance or finances. If unavailable, include a statement explaining the absence of trend data.
- Visual Financials: Bar graphs, pie charts, or other graphics illustrating revenues and expenses.
- Audit Summary: A brief statement confirming a clean audit opinion, with a link to the full audit report.
- Future Outlook: A discussion of upcoming challenges or priorities for the entity.
- Citizen Engagement: A request for public feedback (e.g., “We want to hear from you! What do you think of our report? Please contact us at [insert contact information].”)
- Visual Appeal: Use of photos, graphics, and other design elements to make the report accessible and engaging.
- Distribution Proof: Evidence that the CCR has been made publicly available—such as a web link, physical distribution, or publication in a local newspaper.
- CCR Logo: Inclusion of the Citizen-Centric Reporting logo to promote consistency and program recognition.
Cost
Participation in the CCR program is free—there is no fee to submit a report or receive the certificate.
