AGA’s Journal Editorial Board selects themes for each issue of the Journal to spotlight topics of interest within the government financial management community. While articles related to these themes are encouraged, we also accept high-quality, well-researched submissions on a wide range of government financial topics. Articles offering practical insights into government financial management are particularly valued.

Ultimately, how can we design programs to reduce the risk and incidence of fraud to increase trust in government, now and tomorrow?

Fall 2026: The Impact of Federal Policy Changes – How Will These Changes Affect All Levels of Government?
This issue explores the effects of evolving federal policies on agency operations, intergovernmental collaboration and the roles of accountability professionals at all levels of government. How are recent changes influencing agency priorities, resource allocation and performance expectations at the federal, state and local levels? In what ways do these changes create new challenges or opportunities for accountability professionals and their efforts to ensure transparency and program integrity? How are shifts in federal funding and regulations impacting service delivery, partnerships and collaborative governance among public and private sector stakeholders.

How to Write for the Journal
To ensure your article is considered, please follow these submission requirements:
- Word Limit: Articles should not exceed 2,500 words.
- Originality: Submissions must be original and unpublished work.
- Formatting: Use endnotes rather than footnotes for citations.
- Abstract and Bio: Include a concise abstract (50 words or fewer) and brief author biographies.
- Charts and Graphs: When applicable, include up to four charts or graphs submitted as raw data.
Sidebars: Provide concise sidebars when applicable.
Journal Article Submission Details
All submissions must:
- Provide practical insights into government financial management.
- Be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
The Editorial Board particularly encourages submissions from practitioners. Articles not aligned with the current themes but offering valuable perspectives are also welcome.
