The Journal Editorial Board plays a central role in shaping the Journal of Government Financial Management—AGA’s flagship publication. With a mission to maintain professional quality and relevance, the board ensures the Journal delivers valuable insights, research, and perspectives on the evolving world of public sector financial management.

What the Journal Editorial Board Does

The board is responsible for overseeing the editorial direction, content quality, and long-term vision of the Journal. Working in close collaboration with AGA’s Journal editor, board members help identify timely topics, uphold editorial standards, and ensure each issue reflects the challenges, innovations, and thought leadership driving the profession forward.

The Journal Editorial Board is charged with:

  • Developing and maintaining the editorial calendar
  • Establishing and updating author guidelines
  • Soliciting articles and manuscripts on key government financial management topics
  • Reviewing submissions and selecting high-quality articles for publication
  • Determining the recipient(s) of the annual Author Award

Whether it’s exploring advances in auditing, emerging technologies in finance, or trends in budgeting and accountability, the board ensures the Journal remains a trusted resource for AGA members and the broader government finance community.

Who Serves on the Editorial Board

The Journal Editorial Board includes twelve appointed members, including a Chair and Vice Chair, with representation from:

  • Federal, state, local, and international governments
  • Academia
  • Private sector professionals
  • Fields including accounting, auditing, budgeting, IT, systems, and other relevant government financial disciplines

Board members serve three-year staggered terms, with the opportunity to be reappointed for a second consecutive term. The Chair and Vice Chair serve one-year terms and may be reappointed. AGA’s Chief Executive Officer and Journal Editor serve as ex-officio members.

Why It Matters

The Journal is a platform for sharing new ideas, elevating diverse voices, and sparking dialogue within the government financial management community. The Editorial Board helps ensure each issue meets the high standards AGA members expect—making it a resource that educates, informs, and inspires.
