The Professional Ethics Board (PEB) serves as the steward of AGA’s ethical standards, helping to ensure that members, Certified Government Financial Managers (CGFMs), and their organizations uphold the highest levels of integrity and professionalism. Through leadership, guidance, and oversight, the board promotes ethical awareness and accountability across all levels of government financial management.
What the Professional Ethics Board Does
The Professional Ethics Board oversees AGA’s ethics program and works to foster a culture of ethical behavior throughout the association and the profession. The board helps maintain and interpret AGA’s Code of Ethics, offering clarity and direction for individuals navigating complex ethical issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and reviewing AGA’s Code of Ethics annually
- Proposing updates or amendments to the Code for NGB approval
- Providing interpretations and guidance related to ethical standards
- Overseeing investigations and managing the disposition of alleged ethics violations
- Promoting ethical awareness through AGA events, publications, and training
- Assisting with ethics-focused sessions at conferences and meetings
Through its work, the board upholds AGA’s commitment to excellence, accountability, and professionalism.
Why Ethics Matters
Government financial professionals are entrusted with public resources and decision-making power. Upholding strong ethical standards not only protects public trust—it strengthens the credibility and effectiveness of the profession. The PEB ensures that AGA members and CGFMs are equipped with the knowledge and resources to navigate their responsibilities with integrity.
