When did you start at AGA?
October 2014 – thinking I would work about 5 years….Ha! Hard to leave what you love!
What do you enjoy most about working at AGA?
- The way the AGA team comes together for an event is like nothing I’ve experienced — enthusiasm, creativity, willingness to help others, try something new, and provide our attendees with the best experience possible — great example of comradery!
- Meeting/working with incredibly smart and dedicated government and private sector professionals.
- The ability to serve our government and private sector members (and future members) by providing a valuable (and fun) learning experience.
What’s your favorite AGA memory?
A National Leadership Training (NLT) plenary session several years ago where I had the privilege and honor to moderate three federal government legends: Dave Mader, SallyAnne Harper, and Lee Lofthus as they shared their leadership lessons — Priceless.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
- Making connections for people across government. Someone will call me with an issue and ask if I know someone that can help.
- Seeing hard-working and experienced professionals from across government come together to discuss problems in common and develop and share solutions. Seeing government at its best!
What’s your coffee order?
Morning: Medium coffee, splash of cream and pinch of sugar
Afternoon guilty pleasure — Starbucks iced chai latte
What’s a fun fact about you that may surprise people?
- In the mid-seventies, I became the first female to play on the boy’s golf team in Fairfax County (there was no girl’s golf team)
- My boss at the small firm I went to work for in 1981 (which doesn’t exist now) asked me to become a programmer and sent me to 3 weeks of Oracle training. The second two weeks of instruction were provided by “the” Larry Ellison. My first project after the course was to develop the first data base of worldwide terrorist groups
What do you like to do outside of work?
- Play golf with friends and/or my husband,
- Travel (in U.S. and overseas) to play top 100 golf courses…and drink great wine
- Hang out with friends and family
What was your dream job as a child?
As a teenager, I thought that being a flight attendant would be a glamorous job. I love to travel and some of the uniforms were cute back in the 70s.
