President’s Message

How quickly things can change. Last month we were talking about how time is flying by and we are all crazy busy. Fast forward to now and we have all had to take a step back and re-evaluate our everyday lives. Terms like social distancing and pandemic are now part of our vocabulary. I hope everyone is staying safe and following all of the guidance being provided by the experts in order to help “flatten the curve”.

Currently all in-person events and meetings have been cancelled, for our chapter. The “Meet the Governments” scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Yasuda Center at CSUSB is tentatively cancelled pending future developments.

I want to thank Mr. Erickson, San Bernardino County CFO, for presenting at our March luncheon. His knowledge of “Budgeting and Financial Management in Local Government” was on full display and was very enlightening. The impact of current stock market volatility on our County defined retirement plans as well as the five-year forecast for the County was eye-opening to say the least. However, do not lose hope, over the long-term our investment pools will accumulate gains and we will once again be in position to weather another storm.

As a reminder, committee members are still selling raffle tickets to fund our scholarships! The original plan was to award the scholarships and prizes on May 13, 2020 however that event is also tentatively cancelled pending future developments. We are working on developing virtual meetings so stay tuned for additional information on those events as they become available.

For those of you who are struggling to obtain CPE hours in this current climate of social distancing, I would like to remind you that AGA National is still providing webinars to make earning CPE hours easy. Click the Webinars image to access the current library of courses.
