Message from the President
Welcome to 2021…we made it!
As with all things, the way in which we serve has changed. Throughout 2020 and beyond, we have been continually rocked by towering waves of change, of uncertainty, of fear, and of doubt. As the storm now passes, ask yourselves, “Who has lost their way?” For those that have strayed from their professional compass, AGA must continue to be a beacon for the profession, shining bright upon even the most distant of shores. Our mission of increasing fiscal accountability and transparency in government has never been more paramount.
With the influx of massive government stimulus, budget constraints, emerging robotic innovations, and generational shifts in culture, our future has never been more uncertain. However, in that uncertainty lies opportunity. For those among us who would choose it, we have a unique opportunity to shape the future to our vision, and to build the world as we would make it.
AGA Atlanta is unwavering in our commitment to shape that better future with you. As we continue to rebuild back as a stronger nation, we are committed to supporting the governmental accounting profession through virtual CPE, to empowering the local community through volunteer efforts, and to shaping the students of today into the leaders of tomorrow.
Most importantly, we are committed to serving you. Thank you for your service to your government. Thank you for your leadership in the community, and thank you for professional engagement. I know some among us may be struggling with doubt, or wrestling with the uncertainty of what may lie ahead. Remember; should you face adversity, reach your hand to the community and let us rise together, as one profession—and as one Chapter. In the darkest of times, be the beacon you seek.
Looking forward to “seeing” you on many great upcoming virtual meetings! Until then, take care.
Best Regards,
Jim Dawson, CPA, CFE, CGFM
