The Phoenix Chapter Association of Government Accountants (AGA) is pleased to offer an annual scholarship opportunities for eligible undergraduate/graduate students to apply for a college scholarship. There is one scholarship awarded for $1,000, which can be used for student educational expenses. The Scholarship recipient is also awarded a one year Special Student Membership in the Phoenix Chapter AGA which will entitle him or her to attend chapter meetings and educational events, receive chapter and national publications, access job opportunities through AGA’s online Job Bank, enhance professional development, network with other professionals, and the many other benefits of becoming an AGA member.

We are pleased to announce Michael Carnahan as our Phoenix AGA 2020-2021 $1,000 scholarship winner! Michael is a junior at Grand Canyon University and a member of DECA, and the Finance and Economic Club. He is also very involved in GCU’s outreach as he volunteers for the Homeless Ministry and Outdoor Recreation. His outstanding grades has made him an Alpha Chi National Honors Society member. Michael has interned with the City of Peoria Finance and the City of Avondale. He would like to make a difference through his career in government finance by providing transparency, accurate financial reporting, and improving the community’s trust. 

This year we were also able to offer a $500 scholarship. Congratulations to Terri Payer, a graduate student at ASU. She is majoring in Public Safety Leadership and Administration. Terri also teaches EMS education courses and volunteers as a CPR instructor. Her essay on Mobile Integrated Healthcare was both interesting and intriguing. Her long term goal is to develop payment models to fund Mobile Integrated Healthcare in her community.
