History:
The AGA was founded as the Federal Government Accountants Association (FGAA) by Robert W. King and a group of federal government accountants on September 14, 1950.  The Association expanded in 1975 to include state and local government finance professionals.  At that time, the organization's name was changed to the Association of Government Accountants (AGA).  To learn more, read our Chapter History.

Mission:
We are a diverse group of accounting and audit professionals with the common bond to serve the public through the various levels of government and the private sector.  As public servants faced with the stewardship of taxpayer resources, we are held to the highest standards of accountability, honesty, and trust; which we readily accept and continuously strive to attain.  By working together and assisting each other in our varied disciplines, we can enhance our knowledge, skills, and abilities to serve the public in the most efficient and effective means possible as professional government financial managers.

The Richmond Chapter serves local, state, and federal government accountability professionals in the City of Richmond, Chesterfield County, Henrico County, and surrounding areas. Our chapter is one of the largest with over 250 members, which continues to grow by promoting the value of AGA through our educational opportunities, community service, networking, and other chapter activities.

We connect and empower professionals to help them:

  • Advance sound financial practices, accountability, transparency, and excellence in government

  • Grow, learn, excel and engage through a network of like-minded professionals and leaders

  • Accelerate professional careers through learning opportunities and the opportunity to earn a unique credential - the Certified Government Financial Manager, the only credential developed solely with the government financial professional in mind.

Through thought leadership, certification, and national and chapter educational events, AGA remains at the forefront of emerging issues and innovation — driving excellence and transparency in government accountability.

The Chapter Executive Committee (CEC) meets the second Friday of each month to prepare for our educational programs, community service projects, social events, and other chapter activities.  We invite you to become more involved in the chapter by volunteering for a leadership role on the CEC.  Open positions are available and we would be grateful to have you on board.  Please email us or contact any CEC member for more information.

The chapter sponsors monthly training events beginning September through May. Click here to sign up to be added to our distribution list.
