THANK YOU ALL FOR A GREAT CHAPTER YEAR! Our AGA VA Peninsula Chapter year officially ends on June 30th. We are proud of all of our accomplishments, and want to take the time to list them along with the name of the volunteer leaders who were instrumental in making them happen.
MEMBERSHIP
- Gained 25 new members (Thank you Torae for welcoming each one of our new members).
- Had two new lifetime members (Thank you Jesse Hughes and Joe Rutecki)
EDUCATION
- Offered 7 chapter meetings, including joint meetings with the Southside Chapter of ASMC, the Tidewater Chapter of IIA and the ODU student chapter (MAAC/BAP), with an average attendance of 38 people. We enjoyed speakers that contained a diverse mix of ethnicities, genders, and ages representing federal, state and higher education. (Thank you to Teela, Jessika, Kelly and Evelyn who helped identify/invite speakers, Suzanne who helped set up registration and advertised on our website, Laura and Jordan who created our flyers, and Adrienne who created CPE certificates.
- We supported the ODU School of Accountancy and Beta Alpha Psi students with outreach – A Day in the Life of a Government Accountability Professional. (Thank you Dr. Stone for setting up/coordinating the logistics, and Jesska, Cecelia and Evelyn who participated/helped get participants).
- Held the 28th Annual AGA Commonwealth PDT in partnership with three other AGA chapters (Richmond, Shenandoah and Southwest) offering 16 CPEs, including the 2 hour ethics required of CPAs in VA. We had 174 participants, 17 speakers, 11 sponsors, and $2,960 raised for edmarc, our conference charity. Our percentage of profits was $6,345 (Thank you Melinda, Suzanne, Cecelia, Teela, Evelyn, Jessika, Kelly and Traneisha).
- We started a new partnership with the Southside ASMC Chapter in resurrecting a one-day, joint virtual Spring PDT offering 8 CPEs, more than 130 people attended, 7 sponsors and raised more than $2,000 for Junior Achievement. Our split of the profit was $5,604. (Thank you Joy, Tonya, Laura and Kelly).
- In total, we provided 31 CPEs to more than 530 participants. In addition, we advertised AGA free member only webinars and lunch and learn series presentations to our members, increasing the value of their membership.
CGFM
- We supported CGFM candidates through 3 rounds of study groups (one for each exam) and made study resources available. We had two new CGFMs and many more candidates who are well on their way in passing one or more exams. (Thank you Claudia, Tonya and Jessika)
- The State of VA proclaimed March CGFM Month.
Internal Controls
- We conducted a financial audit and received recommendations to better account for and monitor our finances (Thank you Brad).
- We instituted monthly financial statements and independent third-party review of them (Thank you Evelyn and Adrienne).

- We kept track of and reported our chapter accomplishments, resulting in maintaining our long streak of performing at AGA’s platinum level (thanks to our ACE program tracker Tonya)
- We recognized worthy members of our chapter and association with nominations for NLT and PDT awards and at our end of year award ceremony (Thanks Kelly and Tonya).
We could not have done this without all of you, our members, so thank you for your support and membership! We are always looking for volunteers who want to be a part of our chapter executive committee and help plan our chapter activities – we meet remotely so don’t let geographic distance scare you!
Many thanks to you all – hope to see you at our end of year party or at the AGA PDT in Denver! Enjoy the summer!
Save the date for the Commonwealth PDT in Williamsburg, VA – December 12 & 13, 2024.
