President’s Message

November 2019

Our monthly meeting in October was held on October 23rd, on the topic, “How Automation Can Take the Robot Out of the Human”.  I would like to give a big thank you to our speakers, Duc Duong and Chad Kirkpatrick, from Grant Thornton, for leading this excellent discussion on Robotic Process Automation and the benefits of using this technology in our workplaces.  Also, thank you, to all of you that attended this meeting.

In November our meeting will be held on November 20th on the topic, “Trends in Budgeting and Forecasting in Government”.  We will be back at ASU Skysong for this meeting, and will hear from speakers Cindy Goelz and Mayra Hourigan from Maricopa County Government.  The event is worth two (2) CPE.  You can attend in person, or virtually.  To register for any of our events, you can head over to the events section of our website.  Also, don’t forget that it is still possible to sign up for the package deal.  We have 12 more regular meetings for the year, and the package deal allows you to get these 12 meetings at the price of 9.

In November, the Chapter will also present to students in the Accounting Society at Grand Canyon University, on November 6th.  This is another great opportunity to tell students about the opportunities in working in Government Financial Management.  We will share information about available government jobs in the local area, and information about our scholarship opportunity that must be applied for by December 31st.  We are looking forward to this event.

Here are some other noteworthy items from October:

  • We welcomed one new member this month, Rey from the Town of Florence.
  • We held our second virtual meeting opportunity in October
  • Planning is underway for our annual PDT.  Please let us know if you have topic suggestions.

Thank you for your continued support of the Phoenix Chapter, and we hope to see you in November!  In the meantime, let us know how we can help, by providing your questions and comments to us at  We would love to hear from you!

Michelle Huckabay, CPA, CGFM
President of the AGA Phoenix Chapter
