President’s Message

February 2020

January was a busy month for Phoenix AGA.  We had two new members join the Chapter, Maribel from the Department of Corrections and Chris from the City of Mesa.  Welcome to the Chapter, Maribel and Chris!  We also held two regular meetings, and an Ethics update, and a social event.  We started off the month on January 8th, with an education event on Uniform Guidance, at ASU Skysong, worth two (2) CPEs.  Then, on January 17th, we held our annual Professional Ethics Update for AZ CPAs at Maricopa County Community College offices.  This event was worth four (4) CPEs.  We rounded out the month on January 22nd, with an education event on Cybersecurity and Ransomware from Lealan Miller, CPA of Eide Bailly.  The event on the 22nd was an afternoon event, and immediately following it, we held a social hour.  Both the meeting and the social hour were held at Mission Possible Café in downtown Phoenix.  Mission Possible Café is part of the Phoenix Rescue Mission, and money raised by the Café goes towards their rehabilitation and vocational training programs.  The Phoenix Chapter, also, made an additional $100 donation to Mission Possible.  This event was fun and gave those attending, an opportunity to get to know each other, all while supporting a great local charity.

In February, the Chapter will hold two events.  The first event will be February 5th on the topic of GASB Updates, at ASU Skysong.  This event is worth two (2) CPE.  At this event, we will also recognize our scholarship award winner for 2019-2020, Taliyah Shepherd.  Congratulations, Taliyah!  Later in the month on February 28th, the Chapter will hold its annual Retirement and Tax Update.  This event will be held at ASU Skysong and will be worth four (4) CPEs.  At the meeting on the 28th, the Chapter will also vote for its Chapter Officers for the 2020-2021 year.  If you are interested in running for the Vice President role, please let us know, since this position is still open.  It is a great way to give back to the profession, and to take part in shaping the future of the Phoenix Chapter of AGA.
