Dear Richmond Chapter Members:
We just got word from AGA Headquarters that they have accepted our request to change our name to the:
Greater Richmond Chapter
This may be a small matter to you. But allow me to provide our thinking for this change.
Have you noticed a clear upbeat in the events in the City of Richmond and its environs? We benefit from a vibrant lifestyle everywhere we go. In fact, CNN recently awarded RVA first place in its evaluation of Best Towns to Visit in America, citing RVA’s museums, neighborhoods, dining, and great outdoors.
We have taken notice that many are ready to gather in person again. While we will continue to host virtual events, we wanted to take the opportuny to ensure that not only the locations of our events, but our chapter name is inclusive to the entire area we serve.
So, while the City itself is our hub of activity, most (about 60%) of our members live outside the City’s boundaries Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, New Kent, Petersburg and many more.
Our chapter’s future clearly depends on holding events in and recruiting new members from these jurisdictions. Our new name helps make it clear that we are here for more that just the City of Richmond.
But let us go a bit farther. To us, “Greater” will be a launchpad in 2024/2025 for:
- a greater, reborn Chapter with a new attitude and energy,
- a greater, broader, and fresh membership base,
- greater social events in and out of the City, and
- greater training support drawn from our many colleges and governments.
Your Chapter Executive Committee is very supportive and excited to start promoting this name change. Stand by for new training sessions and social events this year! Consider them an opportunity to mix, mingle, and (by the way) advance your careers.
The future is bright indeed.
June Jennings
