November 2023 Recap

Thank you for all of the work everyone's been doing to keep our chapter thriving!

In November, we had:

1. A chapter meeting, attended by 16 people.

2. An in person social event (1st Cookie Exchange) 

3. Planning meetings for the Commonwealth PDT. 

4. Progress on our Spring PDT.

5. CGFM study group sessions.

6. 5 NLT award nominations.

Do you know a deserving federal, state, local, or private sector accountability professional or a public leader who has demonstrated excellence in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility? Help Us Grow Our Membership

As a membership organization, YOU are our reason for being and we need your help keeping us strong.  AGA National is running a membership challenge now through February 9, 2024, and we’re competing with AGA chapters across the country to build our membership.  We’ve been challenged to increase our membership by 10%, which would mean adding 14 new members.  Personally, if you recruit a minimum of 10 members, you’ll be eligible for AGA’s Top Recruiter honor and win free in person registration and 5 nights hotel stay in Denver CO for PDT ’24!  Tell a friend what you love about AGA!

Applications Now Open for Free AGA Management Leadership Development Program

AGA is now accepting applications for the Next Wave Federal Financial Management Leadership Development Program.  This is a professional development program for those at the GS 13-15 (or equivalent) level who aspire to be a financial organization leader.  The application deadline is November 17th. Our own Tonya Hughes-Scruggs participated last year and is available to answer any questions - feel free to reach out to her at tonyahugh@aol.com

Sign up for the AGA PDT...Early Bird Registration ENDS 11/10!

Do not miss out on our marquee annual training event, the 28th Annual AGA Commonwealth of VA Professional Development Training, held in person at the Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, VA and available remotely via zoom. Early bird pricing ends THIS Friday! Please note – early registration just ensures you get the early bird rate, payment is not due until December 1st and you can cancel by then with no penalty. The training is December 7 & 8 and includes a hospitality reception. Be sure to book your room at the Great Wolf Lodge before the group rate expires (see attached). 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award Recap

Thanks to everyone who came up to Williamsburg, VA on Thursday, October 12th to help present Melinda Morgan her 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award! We had a great time celebrating her accomplishments as our chapter's PDT Chair Lead for the annual AGA Commonwealth PDT. Melinda has spent (and continues to spend) countless hours in nearly every one of our planning committees to ensure effective communication/coordination between our volunteers and the hotel staff. Congratulations on a well-deserved award!

Government Accountability Scholarship Information

Do you know a college junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a public service career in government accountability? If so, please encourage them to apply for the AGA VA Peninsula Government Accountability Scholarship. Individuals can apply through the Hampton Roads Community Foundation between December 1, 2023 and March 1, 2024. The scholarship amount varies based upon market conditions, but it is expected to be approximately $1,000.00 and renewable.
